1955 Chevrolet 150 "gasser" Super Solid Calif Car 402 Big Block Dual Quads on 2040-cars

Year:1955 Mileage:57000
Location:

Port Orange, Florida, United States

Port Orange, Florida, United States

Up for auction is a 1955 Chevy 150 2 door post sedan. The 150 "Business Coupe" came from the factory with no rear seat. This was a very basic sedan that was inexpensive and had no frills. Unlike its big brother the Bel Air the 150 had no extra trim, very few options and was a bare bones sedan used to market the wares of the traveling salesman. Because of the lack of fancy trim and rear seating this little sedan was the lightest of all the Chevrolets and was very sought after, for obvious reasons, by the Drag Racing crowd.

This unbelievably solid example of a real 50's California "Gasser" has been in dry storage in California for many years. I don't have all the history but this hot rod is believed to have been in California most of, if not all of, its life. The car has factory California "one piece" bumpers and all of the sheet metal, including floor pan and trunk pan, appears to be original and exceptionally solid. The factory rear quarter panels were "radius" cut many years ago to accomodate larger tires for drag racing. The popular rear differential back in the 50's and 60's for drag racing was a heavy duty "full size" Pontiac or Olds. This nostalgic gasser still has the 1959 Olds rear. Very rare today. The Danas and Ford 9" rears were not available in that era.

I have waited and searched many years to find an old gasser in this condition just to find I am loosing my garage space and can not complete the project. You will probably never see another 55 Chevy this solid again. Remember these cars are almost 60 years old now. I purchased the car in California and had it shipped to the east coast. The car is now in Daytona Beach, Florida.

Included in the auction is a perfect running 1970 big block 402 chevy with aluminum dual quad tunnel ram, dual Holley carbs and a 400 turbo trans. There is a video in the photos of the motor running. The drivetrain was just put in place for shipping and the mounts etc will need to be welded in. There is a front straight axel under the car. I believe it is a Speedway. The steering will need to be hooked up as well as brakes etc. This is a project. A nice reverse steering box and many misc parts are included. The rear glass is in the car and the windshield and some side glass is included. There is a driveshaft, radiator, window seals, interior window moldings, etc. included.

The inside front door panels have been cut probably for weight and plexiglass windows. The floor is unbelievably solid with just a small area on the drivers front rusted through. Please view photos. The trunk pan is original and very solid. The holes you see are not rot holes but are where someone cut openings for the rear spring to come through. Obviously to lower the rear for better traction. The spare tire well has been removed. Remember this is a real "old school gasser" .. these are things they did back in the day. There is a California "Off Road Use" sticker from 1977 still on the rear glass and a California Car Club sticker on the rear bumper. Cool stuff.

The front fenders are just "tacked" to the hood and are real steel and look to be originals. The hood is uncut. The bottoms of the doors, fenders, rockers and quarter drop offs are super nice. The all steel dash has had some custom weld work done for gauges. All around the windows and front and rear glass is super solid and dry. I have never seen one more solid. This will be a great car to complete as a street gasser or put back to original.

Please view all photos and ask all questions before bidding. Please notice my 100 % perfect 10 year feedback rating...bid with confidence. I have placed a very modest reserve on the car so bid what you can afford and bid to win but please don't ask  what the reserve is as this is an "auction".

The "trim tag" and "vin tag" are intact and in there original correct locations. Also included in the sale is the free and clear California title.
Thank you for looking and bidding ... may the best man / woman win an unbelievable piece of American Drag Racing.

GM won't sell 2014 Chevrolet SS in Canada

Thu, 21 Feb 2013

Allow us to be the first to extend our condolences to our friends to the north. General Motors has announced the 2014 Chevrolet SS will not be available in Canada. The Globe and Mail reports the automaker has confirmed the high-performance sedan won't hit Canadian dealers, though GM hasn't offered up any reasoning as to why that is.
Buyers here in the US of A, meanwhile, can look forward to getting their hands on the 415-horspower, rear-wheel drive SS by late summer. Something tells us it won't be long after that before Canadian officials start seeing individually imported 6.2-liter V8 four-doors in their neighborhoods. Fortunately, Canadian buyers will still be able to take home the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette. The C7 bowed at the Canadian International Auto Show last week, reportedly drawing sizable crowds and interest.

Corvette Stingray Convertible images mysteriously appear on web, so we add our own

Tue, 22 Jan 2013

It was inevitable that we'd see the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray topless at some point, but that didn't make us any less interested when a pair of supposedly leaked official images showed up on theautoinsiderblog.com last week. We posted them on our Facebook page, but held off reporting on them here until we could get a little more information.
Those images, which feature a dark red car on a sterile black studio background, supposedly first appeared on the website of diecast model maker Maisto. A Chevrolet spokesman has been reported saying that they are "not official images released by Chevrolet PR," which isn't a denial they're the real deal, but neither is it a confirmation.
Close examination of the photos suggest they could be official shots of the Corvette Stingray Convertible, and while some have doubted their authenticity due to a lack of vents (which were seen on the C7s that debuted in Detroit last week), it could be that the images are of a base model car without the Z51 package that doesn't require the extra venting and cooling.

800k car names trademarked globally, suddenly alphanumerics seem reasonable

Tue, 01 Oct 2013

What's in a name? This cliched phrase probably gets tossed out at every marketing meeting that happens when a new car gets its nomenclature. We know the answer, though: everything. The name of a car has all the potential to make or break it with fickle customers that are more conscious than ever about what their purchases say about them.
That's giving headaches to marketing folks across the automotive industry. "It's tough. In 1985 there were about 75,000 names trademarked in the automotive space. Today there are 800,000," Chevrolet's head of marketing, Russ Clark, told Automotive News. Infiniti's president, Johan de Nysschen, echoed Clark's sentiment, saying, "The truth of the matter is, across the world, there is hardly a name or a letter that hasn't already been claimed by one car manufacturer or another. You can go through the alphabet - A, B, C and so forth - and you will quickly see that almost all available letters are taken."
What has that left automakers to do? Get creative. In the case of Infiniti, it made the controversial move to bring all of its cars' names into a new scheme, classifying them as Q#0 for cars and QX#0 for SUVs and crossovers. So the Infiniti G, which was available as the G25 and G37, is now the Q50. The FX37 and FX50 are now the QX70.
