1987 Cadillac Brougham D'elegance on 2040-cars

Year:1987 Mileage:64000

Sudden financial challenges are causing me to sell my two Cadillacs (1987 and 1956)

This 1987 car is very unusual in terms of its options:   in addition to all the regular accessories that were standard on this model, it has a factory sunroof which works perfectly, it has a driver's memory seat, it has auto dimming lights as well as twilight sentinel, it has an engine block heater, a power rearview mirror that works properly, and it has the velour seats instead of leather.  The fabric used on these seats is so amazing.  It shows almost no wear after all these years. It is unbelievably comfortable and never hot or cold.

This 1987 Brougham d'Elegance is my daily driver.  I am retired so the use is not all that much.  I also have been using this car in my volunteer work as a chauffeur for the Seattle Opera, giving rides to visiting artists.

I truly love this car and enjoy driving it.  I did not intend on using it on a daily basis, but once I experienced the quietness, the smoothness, and the excellent handling characteristics of this car I was unable to be satisfied with anything less.

Most people are amazed by the beauty of this car, particularly the interior which is so plush and inviting and comfortable.

As with any car I own, I keep this car in top shape at all times.  At this moment there are no issues at all.  The tires still have about a third of their life left, the brakes are wonderful, and everything functions properly.

When I got this car about five years ago, I had a new AC compressor installed, had the front end checked over and adjusted.  I also bought the Kumho tires which are really terrific for this car.   In addition, I have had a new exhaust installed which uses a free-flowing muffler and no resonator.  So the car has a nice engine sound and the engine runs just a bit more freely this way.  It is well known that this 5.0 liter engine is reliable but not all that powerful for such a large car.  I have done my best to keep it super tuned up, free-flowing in terms of the air cleaner and muffler, etc.  It really does run great and I am satisfied with the power.   I have also had the transmission serviced and examined as a precautionary step.  Nothing was wrong with it.

If I were asked to fault this car, I would probably say that the white paint is a bit past its prime, but no one would notice that except a critical viewer, because it looks just fine.  It has its share of little touch-up and imperfections, and there is one very small indentation over the rear wheel on the passenger's side.   A long time ago, someone must have smoked in this car because there are some tiny little empty spots on the driver's door upholstery, where ashes must have fallen and caused holes.  The car has no tobacco smell as I do not smoke and I do not allow smoking in any of my cars.  Plus the car has been detailed countless times in the interim.

The speedometer of my car is in Kilometers.  But I have listed the equivalent miles.

This car has been trouble-free during the time I have owned it.  I needed a new heater core last year, and I believe that has been my only expense in five years time.

Cadillac scraps three-row CUV plans

Fri, 23 May 2014

Crossovers are one of the hottest automotive segments on the planet. Apparently, the idea of mixing the practicality of a station wagon with the looks of an SUV appeals to people whether they are in Cleveland or Shanghai because nearly every automaker is jumping into the market. So it was no surprise when early rumors suggested Cadillac was planning two, new CUVs to fit above and below the SRX. But things might have changed since then.
New rumblings indicate Caddy is taking a different route. Instead of two crossovers, only the compact is on the way, and the larger, three-row CUV on the Lambda platform to sit between the SRX and Escalade may be a goner. According to Ward's Auto, General Motors thinks that the other three-row, Lambda vehicles like the Buick Enclave and GMC Acadia compete too closely with the proposed Cadillac. The decision comes fairly close to the 2017 intended production date.
As far back as 2010, this Lambda-platform based CUV was considered highly likely for production. However, Cadillac Senior Vice President Bob Ferguson was somewhat cooler about it when he discussed the new crossover briefly last year. He said the model could use the Escalade name, despite its unibody chassis, but no decision had been made yet to actually produce it.

2015 Cadillac ATS Coupe favors cleanliness over radical lines

Tue, 14 Jan 2014

Though you might not know it from looking at vehicles like the XTS and Escalade, if you take a broader look at history, you'll see that Cadillac models have gotten a lot smaller from the tail-finned highway cruisers of old. At least when it comes to coupes, anyway. The Eldorado, in particular, kept getting smaller until it disappeared, its place taken in recent years by decidedly more compact XLR, CTS Coupe and ELR hybrid. What you see here, however, is Cadillac's smallest coupe yet.
Revealed today at the Detroit Auto Show is the new 2015 Cadillac ATS Coupe, the brand's first compact two-door coupe, and the first production car to wear the brand's all-new crest. It shares the same platform and wheelbase as the existing ATS sedan, but packs a wider track and unique bodywork that's decidedly more conservative and less unique in its angular styling than the CTS Coupe that it's likely to ultimately displace in the Cadillac lineup. Styling aside, the all-American luxury marque has engineered the ATS Coupe with a focus on reducing weight to the benefit of both performance and fuel economy, giving it near 50/50 weight balance front to rear with underbody aerodynamic elements helping it cheat the wind.
Buyers will be able to choose between two engines: a 2.0-liter turbo four and a 3.6-liter V6.

GM delivers best Q3 sales since 1980, 2.4M vehicles sold

Wed, 15 Oct 2014

People are a weird sort. Even after registering over 70 recalls through the first three-quarters of 2014, General Motors saw its best Q3 results since Jimmy Carter was in the White House, registering over 2.4 million global sales between June and September on the back of strong results in the US and China.
US sales were marshaled by good results for GM's pickups, the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra, which bumped the manufacturer's truck market share to 35.6 percent, up nearly three points from Q1 2014. Buick has seen healthy growth as well, with the Encore dominating its segment for the sixth month running.
It was China, though, that really bolstered GM's sales, as the company's efforts to top last year's record-setting 3.16 million units continued apace. Small SUV sales saw massive growth, with Encore, Chevrolet Trax and Captiva figures jumping 90 percent in Q3. Brand-wise, Chevrolet, Cadillac and Buick all saw sales gains in the PRC, with each recording double-digit year-over-year jumps. Cadillac sales alone were up 63 percent compared to the first nine months of 2013.
