I recently purchased this Allante but am now moving to downtown Detroit, where I will not have the room to keep the extra car. My loss, your gain. Terrible time of year to sell a convertible - so act on this deal now! The Good: Pinninfarina style! American V8! The paint looks good for the most part, other than the few issues listed below. The color is vibrant and clear coat is solid and shiny. This is driver, it's got the miles to prove it. 151,xxx. I bought the car in Green Bay, WI and drove it back to Ann Arbor, MI with no problems at all. The interior is not perfect, but is nice for the age. The leather has it's worn spots, but is not torn anywhere. The carpet is clean and undamaged. The convertible top is clean, works perfectly, and has no tears. The A/C blows cold! I have never touched the freon, but the computer keeps saying it should be charged. It works great though! This car has a pretty sophisticated computer monitoring system. It can be accessed with a certain combination of keys. I'm no mechanic, but I am a curious sort so I flipped through all of the options. It seems to report that the engine is healthy. You might be a better judge than I, but it certainly starts and runs like it! She's a cheap stylish convertible for the summer! The Bad: Perfect Allantes go for $10,000. (Can you believe they were $60,000 twenty years ago?) Why is this one so cheap? I'll put the cards on the table and you can decide if the price is right. I'm going to pick apart this car, so you know what you're buying. Please notice none of what is listed below prevents you from putting the top down and cruising! Again, she got me back from WI and hundreds of miles since then. The WI title was a salvage. I challenge you find evidence of what happened. I could not see where it might have been hit. According to the carfax it happened years ago and the owner continued to drive it for years afterward. Strangely, MI did not issue a salvage title. The exhaust rattles a bit at idle. The transmission works fine, but is getting old and shifts slightly rough from time to time. The suspension too has seen some years. It's floatier than it should be. She'll need new tires next season. The cruise control does not work. The CD player does not work - on the bright side you get a free CD if you can get it out of the deck. The passenger window needs help to get up and down. The front of hood has some big chips in the paint. A cable from the latch inside the drivers door frame that actuates the convertible top's boot is broken. It is very easy to actuate manually, you just have to reach inside the car. 2016 Cadillac ATS-V brandishes 450 horses and 6-speed manual
Tue, 11 Nov 2014Details about the hotly anticipated 2016 Cadillac ATS-V are tumbling out, and they look to be everything we could ask for in a high-performance Caddy coupe.
According to Road & Track, the ATS-V will use a version of the twin-turbocharged 3.6-liter V6 from the CTS Vsport, but the wick will be turned up to 450 horsepower and 445 pound-feet of torque. In glorious news for driving enthusiasts everywhere, that potent mill will be available with either a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic.
According to R&T, the engine has a heap of high-performance tech to let it make the extra ponies, including titanium connecting rods, two water-to-air intercoolers, titanium turbines for the turbos and an additional radiator dedicated to cooling the gearbox and electronically locking differential. Keeping it all planted are a set of Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires, and a suspension with 50 percent more roll stiffness.
2014 Cadillac ELR whirs into Jay Leno's Garage
Tue, 18 Jun 2013While Jerry Seinfeld was gallivanting around LA with Sarah Silverman in a Jaguar XKE, our favorite car-loving comedian, Jay Leno, was checking out the all-new 2014 Cadillac ELR. Set to go on sale later this year, Cadillac brought its ELR to Jay Leno's Garage to show off some of its styling and technology as well as give Leno some seat time in the range-extended EV. Leno owns both a Volt and a CTS-V, and the ELR is a kind combination of the two (sort of).
In this episode, Leno spends some time talking to Frank Saucedo, GM director of advanced design, and ELR chief engineer Chris Thomason before logging a few miles on the sleek coupe. Interestingly, it seems that GM has definitely changed its tune a little since the introduction of the Volt a couple years ago; Saucedo and Leno both refer to the ELR as a hybrid, and Thomason says that it gets the "bulk of its propulsion" from the electric motors. Cadillac dealers get $5,000 incentive for ELR test drives
Tue, 13 May 2014The 530 Cadillac dealers - out of 940 total dealers - that signed on to sell the brand's ELR for $75,000 or lease it for $699 per month have managed to move 247 of them in the last five months. That's a little less than two cars for each dealer more than two dealers for each car if you need help with the math. With inventories of the luxury plug-in hybrid building up - Automotive News reports a 725-day supply - General Motors has created the Demonstrator Allowance Program to billow the sails on that slow moving ship, giving dealers $5,000 to promote ELR test drives.
A dealer with one ELR in its test fleet that racks up 750 test driven miles between May 1 and June 2 earns the fifty Benjamins, a dealer with two ELRs in the test fleet will get one hundred Benjamins. That will be added to summer incentives for dealers that pay $2,000 for units sold in July and $1,000 for units sold in August, while on the customer side, Cadillac has put "customer discount certificates" worth $3,000 on the hood for buyers and lessees.
Cadillac suggests this is about raising awareness of the ELR, but the question is how much dealers will be able to do for a car that observers - and buyers, apparently - still consider highly overpriced.
