Here's a beautiful semi custom 1965 Buick Skylark Convertible that is mostly new or rebuilt . Z plant Fremont CA car which has never had any rust or patch panels and still has all original chrome . Let's start with running gear . Original motor 355 Wildcat ( 300 ci 11 to 1 compression ) runs great . Everything under hood is new or rebuilt other than guts of motor and has never been repainted other than I touched up top of radiator . Timing gear were replaced , water pump , fuel pump , starter , Edelbrock Elec Choke 600 cfm carb ( have original ) , Petronix electronic ignition put in original dist , later high power internal regulator alt , 2 1/2 " 3 chamber flow master exhaust etc . Transmission is rebuilt out of a Grand National 200 R Overdrive ( replacing stock 300 SP 2 speed ) and was done by shop so kickdown etc works correctly . Front end was completely rebuilt and Power Disc Brakes where added . Front and rear sway bars so really a tight driving car . Exterior , Paint was done in early to mid 80's and still looks great since it's been garaged most of it's life ( Shell Beige same as original ) . Some small imperfections and little nicks ( I touched up so hard to see unless looking for them ) , original chrome is in very good condition , front bumper has one small ding but has no pitting front or rear , I added wheel opening moldings , glass is super nice and car is very straight . I'd only paint if I wanted to win shows it's perfect for driver / weekend local shows in my book . Interior , I had body shop completely take apart even windshield out painted dash correct semi gloss black , added 70 15 " GS style sport steering wheel , deluxe 65 seat belts , had custom Marine Leather interior installed to look stock and parade boot to match ( Interior was Saddle ) , added Super Rare Restored 65 Ironing Board console  , Tilt steering was in car already , Alpine Cd player ( am/fm/I pod plug in glove box ) mounted under dash with no cutting , Custom Auto kick panels and upgraded dash speaker . Top , I had body shop removed frame had it blasted and painted same time as dash was done . Installed top of line Stay Fast top with custom ordered tinted plastic window and all new weatherstripping . Buick 15X7 Buick Rallies with big white letter BFGoodrich Radial TA tires 235/60/15 front 255/60/15 rear . I have extra original parts , new Finned Polished Valve covers etc that come with car if you buy at full price .  I prefer someone coming and looking at car in person or having car inspected . I'm willing to drive car to airport or to shop of your choose for inspection . Feel free to call or email with questions and will do my best to take any pictures needed . My plan was pro touring with best of Buick stuff . Thanks , Mike 831-726-7270

eBay Find Of The Day: 1946 Tucker Torpedo Prototype II hides a secret Riviera

Thu, 10 Jul 2014

The Tucker Torpedo is one of the great what-if stories of automotive history. Preston Tucker hoped to revolutionize the industry with a car unlike any other on the road at the time. However, due to a variety of problems, he only managed build 51 vehicles before closing shop. Over time, they have become highly sought-after; In 2012, one sold for $2.65 million at auction.
That brings us to this Tucker "replica" that you see above because it might be one of the ugliest monstrosities ever put together. However, we might extend some leniency to the creator, as the vehicle isn't actually trying to replicate the classic look of the 1948 Tucker Torpedo. Instead, it is attempting to reproduce an earlier prototype from 1946 that actually features that weird, trident nose. According to the seller, his uncle built the car as a labor of love and supposedly used actual plans from Tucker as inspiration.
Underneath all of the crazy changes is a 1971 Buick Riviera powered by a 455-cubic-inch (7.5-liter) Buick V8. Some of the replica's odder modifications include the front fenders that turn with the wheels and the fin running down the back. All three headlights work, but the one in the middle is only for the high beams. Oddly, the small hinged sections on the roof are meant to open to avoid hitting your head when getting in or out. Maybe the seller's uncle was a very tall guy?

Buick version of Equinox/Terrain CUV spied testing... with autonomous gear?

Wed, 12 Jun 2013

Let's get the most pressing bits of this story out of the way right off the bat: What we see here appears to be a new compact crossover from Buick. According to the spy photographer, this machine may be a little bit smaller on the outside than the current Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain 'utes, which makes sense since recent rumors suggest GM's small crossovers will migrate to a new platform that will mark a convergence between the automaker's Delta (Chevy Cruze, Buick Verano) and Theta (Equinox, Terrain) platforms. This Buick would likely use this new D2UX platform.
We've been expecting Buick to unleash a crossover to slot between the very small Encore and the very large Enclave, and various rumors have indicated that the model may be known as either the Anthem or Envision. It's worth mentioning that Buick had planned, back in 2009, to release a vehicle in the compact CUV market, but abandoned those plans after a particularly poor reception.
And now for something completely different... Take another look at the spy shots above, and pay special attention to the cylindrical device mounted to the vehicle's roof. We can't say for sure what it is, but our spy photographer opines that it looks quite a bit like the 360-degree Lidar camera equipment used by Google for its autonomous cars. Is General Motors working with Google on autonomous car technology? We don't know, but you can definitely consider us intrigued.

Buick Encore blitzes first-year sales predictions

Sat, 01 Mar 2014

With its first full year of sales in the bag, it's safe to say that Buick has a hit on its hands with the Encore. US buyers have snatched up 31,046 of the small, premium crossovers since the Encore went on sale in January of 2013, while 97,311 were sold globally (not counting its counterparts from Opel and Vauxhall).
While we liked the Encore when we first drove it, we'll admit, we weren't sure how the tiny CUV would do. In fact, the first thing Executive Editor Chris Paukert wrote about the Encore was, "We admit it. We have no earthly idea how this whole thing is going to shake out." But it's done well, and has been subject to heavy demand over the past year, blowing away the estimates of analysts, who, according to an August story from Automotive News, projected no more than 18,500 units would be sold in 2013.
"Right out of the gate, demand for the Encore was high," Tony DiSalle, vice president of Buick marketing said in a statement. "It accounted for most of the segment's growth last year and that's because it offers the right safety, technology and features in the right-sized vehicle for many customers."
