1968 Buick Riviera Gran Sport on 2040-cars

Here's the story: two "non-car" guys were sold a bill-of-goods on this beautiful classic that had more problems than we were led to believe, and, as a result, we paid a LOT more than the car was worth.
We've put new tires, brakes, shocks, battery, oil filter pump, rebuilt carburetor, belts and cables, on it, and probably some other stuff I've forgotten. There is some rust visible around the trunk rim and license plat recess, and some chrome pitting on the bumper. Is there other rust we're unaware of? I wouldn't bet against it but honestly don't know. There are a couple of minor scrapes on the passenger door that look to me like they could buff out, and a small paint bubble above the "R" logo on the driver's side. The odometer shows 17,856 miles; of course, this can't be certified as accurate, and the car is being sold AS IS, with clear title. The interior is in good shape, except for an approx. 3-4 inch seam split on the driver's seat and a similar split on the other front seat back. The dash is solid but to some extent reflects the age of the car. The back seat looks almost new! The car is drivable but needs a new exhaust system and may have some engine issues; we've had differing opinions from different mechanics---one said the engine needed to be rebuilt or replaced, another said he'd be comfortable driving it "to California and back," (we're in Tennessee!) so... Bottom line is, we've fooled with it as much as we're going to, and it's time to take our lumps and turn the page. What you're buying is a gorgeous, limited-production, true Riviera GS with a 430ci, 360hp engine, with bucket seats and "horseshoe" shifter which can be had for a fraction of it's potential value. New Buick Verano testing in Germany
Thu, 29 May 2014A refresh to Buick's popular Verano sedan appears to be nigh, thanks to these spy photos that show the tweaked four-door testing in Germany.
As with the current Verano, the refreshed model will have a great deal in common with its European platform-mates, the Vauxhall/Opel Astra. Each car rides on General Motors's Delta II platform. Unlike the current car, though, the refreshed model's styling could lean more heavily towards its European roots, if these photos are any indication.
Despite its commonality with the Astra Sedan, the Verano has featured its own unique styling since arriving in the US back in 2011 as a 2012 model, with distinct fascias at both the front and back, as wells its own headlight and taillight designs. The two cars were still rebadged vehicles, but it was more subtle than it will be in 2015, when the refreshed Verano arrives. Astra-like elements are expected to dominate, particularly in regards to the headlights and taillights. That said, trademark Buick styling features will remain, like the waterfall grille. Really, then, the 2016 Verano won't be unlike the Regal - a rebadged Vauxhall/Opel Insignia, aside from a few very small styling details.
Buick mulling more powerful Encore; diesel too
Mon, 21 Oct 2013Looking to set itself apart in the mid-luxury segment, Buick is looking to introduce a diesel engine somewhere in its US lineup. And according to Edmunds, the two best chances of a diesel Buick rest with the Encore and Verano.
In both our First Drive and Review of the 2013 Encore, our chief complaint about the compact crossover was the the lack of power from the 138-horsepower turbo engine. Edmunds says that the recently introduced 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine (with both gas and diesel variants) from the Encore's overseas cousin, the Opel Mokka, could make its way into the Encore delivering the much-needed boost in power.
Then there's the Verano. As a close relative to the Chevy Cruze, which just added a diesel engine for 2014, the article speculates that a Verano Diesel might actually be the more "probably candidate" if and when Buick decides to add a diesel model to its portfolio. Either way, offering such an engine in one of its products could be a great way for Buick to differentiate itself from Cadillac and possibly even attract buyers from Volkswagen, Audi and Mercedes-Benz looking for a luxurious, fuel-efficient vehicle.
Next-gen LaCrosse, Cascada convertible coming to Buick showrooms in 2016
Wed, 23 Jul 2014It's difficult to overstate how significant the post-bankruptcy years have been for General Motors' Buick brand. Arguably the most improved American automaker, Buick has rounded out its range with an excellent compact in the Verano, a well-balanced midsizer in the Regal and a segment-busting mini-CUV, with the Encore.
Seeking to keep that momentum going, the next several years will see the brand address a trio of its most obvious issues. First and foremost will be a replacement for the aging LaCrosse, a vehicle whose only bit of attention since its 2009 debut was a very light refresh in 2013.
According to Automotive News, we should expect the next-generation LaCrosse to arrive late next year or early in 2016, as a 2016 model. AN expects big design changes, as Buick attempts to further the LaCrosse from its popular platform-mate, the Chevrolet Impala. The changes won't be so radical, though, as to do away with its front-drive architecture, as the latest version of the Epsilon platform will underpin the next LaCrosse. The 3.6-liter V6 is likely to carry on, although a smaller, budget-minded offering is also extremely likely (we'll eat our hat if it's not the 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder from the Regal, Verano and Cadillac CTS et al.).
