Portland, Oregon, United States

Extremely rare and highly desirable 1987 Buick Regal Turbo T-Type with T-Tops (say that 10 times fast!).   3.8 Liter Turbo V6 producing 245HP (actual numbers believed to be higher) and a 0-60 time of 5.5 seconds.  JUST 38,966 ACTUAL MILES! Finished in Bright White with Deluxe Tan Interior and hand painted pinstripes. 1987 was the last year of the GNX/Grand National Turbo production, and for the last year Buick decided to offer the same package offered in the GNX/Grand National cars, but opened up the color choices and added the T-Top option with added luxury interior features. This rare car is one of those lightweight “last of the best” cars, shaving .6 seconds off the Grand National’s 0-60 time. Production numbers from GM show just 1,547 of these cars being built.  This particular car has chrome turbo upgrades, new wheels and newer tires, a $2,600 sound system, custom exhaust and so much more.  Included with the sale are the original lightweight factory “ribbed” wheels, original radio,t-top cases, all original parts that were replaced, original Marone Window Sticker, and all original manuals including the car’s original warranty record showing the car being sold by Bill Lake Buick of Cleveland, OH to David A. Bartz of Brook Park, OH on 3-28-87 with 6 miles on the odometer. (pictures of boxes of included parts available on request) This car spent some of its life as an office parade lap car and because of this, it is equipped with strobe, parade, and track lights front and rear.  Fully serviced, clean CARFAX History Report and loads of service records will be provided to the new owner, along with 2 sets of keys. Absolutely rust free. Understated, often misunderstood (and mistaken for a Grand National, which it’s not), and very very rare factory muscle car.  Unbelievable investment and ready for you to enjoy at rocket speeds…one of the top 3% fastest cars on the road in 1987.  Never smoked in.  Stunning condition.

eBay Find Of The Day: 1946 Tucker Torpedo Prototype II hides a secret Riviera

Thu, 10 Jul 2014

The Tucker Torpedo is one of the great what-if stories of automotive history. Preston Tucker hoped to revolutionize the industry with a car unlike any other on the road at the time. However, due to a variety of problems, he only managed build 51 vehicles before closing shop. Over time, they have become highly sought-after; In 2012, one sold for $2.65 million at auction.
That brings us to this Tucker "replica" that you see above because it might be one of the ugliest monstrosities ever put together. However, we might extend some leniency to the creator, as the vehicle isn't actually trying to replicate the classic look of the 1948 Tucker Torpedo. Instead, it is attempting to reproduce an earlier prototype from 1946 that actually features that weird, trident nose. According to the seller, his uncle built the car as a labor of love and supposedly used actual plans from Tucker as inspiration.
Underneath all of the crazy changes is a 1971 Buick Riviera powered by a 455-cubic-inch (7.5-liter) Buick V8. Some of the replica's odder modifications include the front fenders that turn with the wheels and the fin running down the back. All three headlights work, but the one in the middle is only for the high beams. Oddly, the small hinged sections on the roof are meant to open to avoid hitting your head when getting in or out. Maybe the seller's uncle was a very tall guy?

Buick Verano to go turbo-only for 2014?

Sat, 22 Dec 2012

If VIN tags recently posted online prove accurate, the 2014 Buick Verano may be getting a new base engine. Presently the Verano makes use of GM's 2.4-liter Ecotec four-cylinder engine in non-turbo trim; 2014 documentation appears to indicate that GM's entry-level luxury compact will instead feature a 1.6-liter turbocharged mill.
If this is the same engine seen in Europe, GM Inside News suggests it may offer 192 horsepower and 170 pound-feet of torque - useful improvements over the larger naturally aspirated mill's 180 hp and 171 lb-ft. More importantly, the downsized engine would likely improve on the Verano's current fuel mileage estimates of 21 city and 31 highway.
We like the Verano in both of its current iterations, but the 1.6 turbo engine sounds like a worthwhile upgrade if this reports turns out to be true. Plus, if more performance is your bag, baby, there's always the Verano's optional 2.0 turbo engine with an impressive 250 horsepower and 260 lb-ft from just 2.0 liters of displacement.

2013 Buick Encore

Ignored On Arrival, But Coming On Strong
An image exists out there that perfectly conveys the fate we thought would befall the Buick Encore after its world debut at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show. The shot shows the just-unveiled Encore on stage, basking in the glow of spotlights but surrounded by a large display area that's bereft of both cars and people. Two journalists are sitting on a couch over to the side, both facing the Encore but ignoring it as they inspect their swag, and a solitary custodial engineer pushes a vacuum back and forth across a sea of gray carpet.
Like a kid with his birthday cake at a party no one came to, this little crossover's debut was largely, almost cruelly, ignored. Who can blame us, though? Two shows ago, the Motor City's main stage welcomed the redesigned Aston Martin-esque Ford Fusion, the 3 Series-assassin ATS from Cadillac and the return of Dodge to the small car game with the Dart. A fourth model for the wayward Buick brand, especially one so arguably un-Buick in form and function, did not seem to deserve the attention paid to its peers that year.
