1987 Buick Grand National Turbo, Coupe, Black. on 2040-cars
Rolling Meadows, Illinois, United States
This car is in good condition but like most GNs it could use a little work. It runs and drives fine and the body has no visible rust or dents.
As for work done to the car, I have only done routine maintenance and replace the battery myself. From the paperwork I received from the previous owner, it appears the engine has been rebuilt, and the turbo was serviced as well. There is a "boost leak" when the turbo kicks in, it sputters. I have not had the time to look into this. From time to time the brakes seem "spongy" although the lines have been bled. There is also a minor squeal which sounds like a bearing, but I'm not sure. The interior is in great condition with the exception of the headliner which needs to be replaced and the dash which is cracked (you can see from the photos). The exterior has some minor flaws as well, such as minor chips, peeling at the bottom, clear coat spots, small paint blisters, the headlight surrounds are faded and cracked (also shown in the photos), and the wheels also have chipped paint. There is a slow leak on both rear right and front left tires, and looks as though they could use replacing. All in all it's a solid car for someone who has more time and a little extra money to enjoy it. The buyer is responsible for shipping and costs. A $500 non-refundable deposit is due within 24 hours of the end of the auction or the car will be relisted. Arrangements for shipping/pickup must be made within 7 days or the sale will be void and the deposit will be forfeited. |

GM expanding Lansing Lambda CUV plant
Thu, 30 Oct 2014Considering that crossovers are a rapidly growing portion of the US auto market, it's not surprising to hear that General Motors is preparing to build even more of them. The company is investing $63 million to expand its Lansing Delta Township Assembly plant that builds Lambda platform CUVs like the Chevrolet Traverse, GMC Acadia and Buick Enclave.
According to GM, the expansion will add roughly 263,000 extra square feet of space to the plant. Of that, 181,000 square feet will be for an updated body shop with cutting-edge robots. There will also be 54,000 square feet of additional room in the paint shop and 28,000 square feet of more area for general assembly.
GM isn't saying as much, but there is the possibility that this extra space could allow for additional models produced at the factory. Cadillac reportedly dropped plans to build a three-row SUV on the Lambda platform earlier this year, however, dealers for the luxury brand were recently pitched the possibility of adding large and small CUVs, an ATS convertible or a sedan below the ATS.
2015 Buick Verano offered with six-speed manual after all
Mon, 09 Jun 2014Good news, boys and girls (well, at least those of you who still like shifting for yourselves). Buick got in touch with us to correct some information that it had mistakenly announced; namely, that the 2015 Verano will lose its optional six-speed manual transmission. Apparently, that announcement was incorrect, and the compact sedan will indeed continue to offer a manual option for 2015, despite what we're certain is a low take rate. Additionally, the Desert Dusk Metallic paint that was said to come as part of an Appearance Package is no longer part of the deal. With that out of the way, we now return you to your regularly scheduled automotive-obsessive broadcast...
38k GM eAssist hybrids recalled for circuit board, fire risk
Mon, 06 May 2013General Motors has issued a recall covering 38,197 2012 and 2013 model-year Chevy Malibu Eco, Buick LaCrosse and Regal sedans equipped with eAssist, and sold in the United States. The automaker will check the generator control module for proper operation. Only vehicles built before December 2012 are being recalled.
According to the automaker, a malfunctioning generator control module could slowly drain the battery, causing an indicator to light up in the dash. If that indicator is ignored, the driver may experience a stalling engine, and in some cases, "a burning or melting odor, smoke, and, in rare instances, a fire in the trunk."
GM says the issue is not with the eAssist battery pack; the smoke and fire comes from overheating of the control board. One trunk fire has been reported, but no injuries are known. Scroll down below for the official press release from GM.
