Bugatti enters the car-branded hookah market

Wed, 06 Nov 2013

Ever look at the price of a new Veyron and wonder what they're smoking over in Molsheim? Heck, that latest special edition Vitesse costs nearly $3 million, and that's before taxes and delivery. Well, we've got the answer right here. It's a shisha pipe - the kind smoked in bedouin tents and cafés frequented by Middle Eastern gentlemen the world over - and it's branded by Bugatti.
The pipe is hand-crafted from titanium and carbon fiber (instead of the usual glass and steel) and stands about two and a half feet tall. It's made by a company called Desvall, which contrary to what you might think, is located not on the eastern or southern shores of the Mediterranean or along the Persian Gulf, but in Stockholm, Sweden.
And the price? A suitably Bugatti-like $100,000. That's a heck of a lot more than the already-outrageous $1,950 that Porsche Design gets for its shisha, which, let's face it, is basically a beautifully-crafted but overpriced water bong, to say nothing of what an average shisha would cost you in the bazaar. But we're sure there are some customers somewhere in the world who'd gladly pony up that amount to smoke a Bugatti pipe next to their Veyron in their lavishly appointed garage at the end of a sand-swept driveway. And Desvall only needs 150 of them, because that's all they're making.

Mansory Vivere is surprisingly subdued

Wed, 05 Mar 2014

As far as tuning companies go, Mansory isn't exactly known for its restraint. That's why this Bugatti Veyron-based Vivere is a little shocking to us. In terms of ostentatiousness, this thing is actually pretty tame, especially considering how over-the-top Bugatti itself can go with its legendary supercar.
For starters, the body is done up in a two-tone white-and-carbon-fiber look, which is actually sort of cool. Of course, we'd do without the added aero treatment, consisting of a "striking front apron," side skirts, larger air outlets and a new rear diffuser. Mansory again uses the word "striking" to describe the new, double-five-spoke wheels, but as far as exterior, um, enhancements go... that's it.
Inside, Mansory has added a healthy dose of LED lighting, the tuning company saying "the whole passenger compartment glows in the light" from these added lamps. The upholstery is done up in a black-and-white leather theme, sort of matching the exterior, and there's a new steering wheel that "looks sporty with great grip." Cool.

Bugatti Galibier back on the table?

Thu, 04 Sep 2014

The Galibier may look like a four-door Bugatti to you, but to us, it's a yo-yo. That's because Bugatti has gone back and forth on the prospect of its production more times than we'd care to count, but now it's apparently back on the table. Again.
Bugatti first presented the 16C Galibier concept to a select group of clients way back in 2009 and subsequently toyed with the idea of production. The supersedan packed a twin-supercharged version of the company's 8.0-liter W16 engine into a larger chassis and was initially under consideration as Bugatti's follow-up act, either alongside or instead of a new Veyron.
The hemming and hawing seemed to have been put to rest when CEO Wolfgang Dürheimer was temporarily replaced by Wolfgang Schreiber, but in speaking to Automotive News, Dürheimer said he still revisits the idea from time to time.
