I always get 18 mpg combined city (driving around omaha) / 22 mpg highway (at 70 mph cruise control setting)

I put a lot of information here for a couple of reasons.
-
1.  I have worked on German (BMW, Porsche, VW) cars since the late '80s (over 25 years now) and know tons about them.
2.  I want you to have all the information at your disposal, so you make the most informed decision.
3.  I genuinely want you to enjoy this X5 for a long time.  It has TONS to offer, and I have done the work that keeps these running well.
4.  Whomever wins will have my email address.  As with ANY car I have ever sold, you can reach back to me 6 months or 6 years later with your BMW questions.  I am a resource with as much experience as any dealer technician, and I can save you lots of money in the long run.  I don't ever let other mechanics touch my cars.
-
Please take the time to read and digest this ad and use it in comparison to other BMWs. It will help you understand the items of concern that others leave out of their ads.
-
How reliable  you ask? My wife is a travel health care worker.  I drive this hundreds or thousands of miles to see her every month.  It is VERY reliable as I would not risk the long trips if it were not.  This is also why I am 100% confident in delivering it to you as per my ending-auction/radius delivery statement below.  I decided to use my 530i for travel instead, it gets better highway mileage.
-
I drive in and around Omaha, Nebraska and get 18 miles per gallon running only premium (no ethanol) gas doing errands and going to and from work.  I get 22 miles per gallon on the highway when I drive to see my wife in her travels around the US.  On the highway I use the cruise control right at 70mph on the speedo, and get 22mpg like clockwork.  I even recently towed the uhaul small enclosed 4x8 trailer loaded fully, and I still got 18.5 mpg at 65 miles per hour on the highway!!  I was thrilled.  So if you are pulling a waverunnuer or smaller item, you'll still likely get 20mpg if you keep your speed at 70 mph. I just put the 4 and 7 pin trailer electronics in it in July.  It never had the electronics before, so I am certain heavier things were never towed.  Likely just bike racks since any trailer would have legally needed the electronics for the trailer.
-
CLEAN TITLE is in my hands and in my name, this car is NOT A SALVAGE vehicle, no flood or major accident damage.  There is a fender bender on record back in 2009 right before I bought it.  Front bumper was repainted and one headlight was replaced (OEM BMW light).  That's the only accident damage of any sort.  Feel free to run the CARFAX (VIN: WBAFA53581LP24656) as you will find the same. I want you to know what sold me when I first bought this X5 back in 2009.  The carfax showed a bunch of owners, but in the glove were receipts from a Mr. Sosa, and the receipts from day one were in his name with addresses from each of the places he lived while moving around with the military.  He was an Army officer that moved all over the US.  I was the 2nd owner!  It was obvious to me as a mechanic how well he took care of it.

Payment must be FULLY CLEARED before anyone gets keys or title.

-
Reason for selling: I have my next project and can let this one go, also, I am getting furloughed, and I don't really need two cars and a motorcycle for just me.
-

This is a 2001 BMW X5 3.0L Automatic, All Wheel Drive
This is the straight 6 cyl engine that has made BMW a world leader in
performance. The 3.0 gets much better gas mileage than the 4.4
and lets face it, everybody needs better gas mileage. It still has
LOTS of pep in it.
-
Year 2001
VIN: WBAFA53581LP24656
Mileage 179k

This trans also has the sport mode tiptronic if you like it to linger
in gear a little longer before shifting for that sporty ride or in
traffic so you are not braking as much.

I also have the CARFAX from before I bought this X5. I
will give it to you if you buy the X5 (I love having good records on
the vehicle). Carfax shows Accident reported on 04/19/2009. It got
in a fender bender and needed the bumper painted and a headlight.

I have been working on BMWs, VWs, and Porsche for over 20 years
as my personal vehicles. I have owned hundreds of cars literally.

Other things I replaced on this X5 since I first owned it:
..Hawk high performance, ultra low dust CERAMIC brakes! (no black brake dust on wheels, ever)
..ball joints
..tie rod ends, and
..control arms w/ bushings
..final stage unit (FSU) resistor (keeps the a/c fan blowing)
..water pump
..thermostat and housing assembly
..viscous fan clutch (these are the silent BMW killers when they fail)
..both belts (a/c and p/s-alternator belts)
..driver side front door carrier (outer handle opening mechanism)
..driver side rear door carrier
..passenger side front door carrier (can you tell these are a common failure item)
..fuel pump (from Hawaii Import auto parts at Ward, they only carry bosch/vdo/siemens pumps)
..both rubber intake boots (no vacuum leaks)
..oil separator hose (no vacuum leaks)
..headliner was professionally replaced

I have full synthetic (RedLine) oils in the:
..transfer case (D4) and
..both differentials. (75w-90)

I run Full Synthetic Mobil 1 ONLY in the crank case.

It has the crystal clear xenon lights with the clear blinkers from
the dealer, not some cheap knockoffs. And these are not hazy or faded.

It has the multi CD changer right in the armrest.. .no stopping to open the trunk!
-
It has freezing cold A/C !!
-
Roof rails, ready for your sports gear.

It has the factory BMW rain shields on the windows...
You can leave the windows down about an inch or so and never get a drop of
rain inside. Keeps the car way cooler on a hot day!

It has the full sized trailer hitch for your boat, waverunner, or whatever and electronics up to 6000 lbs

There is much much more... if you are looking for and X5, you have to see this one.

So, if you have not guessed it by now, I just keep fixing things until you can't
resist buying it. Anyone that buys a car from me gets an AMAZING quality
car with minimal problems.

This truck starts, runs, and drives like a dream.

There are a few quirks.  You'll find some with any used car.  Here are the ones I know of:
-Fuel gauge never read correctly, even after I put in the new fuel pump and assembly.  So don't trust the the dial.  Reset trip counter and always fill up before 300.  250 to be safe
-Radio pixels  are about 75% gone common BMW radio issue.  Works fine but looks crappy.  Mileage pixels and gauge cluster are clear as a bell.
-Rear hatch works perfectly, just need to be lifting.  If you pop the rear hatch, it'll relatch itself, a little lift and you're good
-Driver window is a little slow.  Been slow for 4 years at least.  I always help it by hand a little.

BMW maintenance plan no longer transferrable to 2nd owner

Tue, 12 Aug 2014

One of the best innovations in car buying in recent years is the rise of no-cost scheduled maintenance programs. Many people feel really anxious about taking their car in for service, and these deals help mitigate that somewhat. Obviously, it's not free for automakers to implement the offers, and now BMW is altering the way its four-year, 50,000-mile Maintenance Program works for some owners. "To keep such an offer sustainable we had to make a change," said Kenn Sparks, Manager of Business Communications at BMW North America, to Autoblog via email.
The original person to buy or lease the model isn't going to see any difference, but the program is no longer transferable to a second owner, unless that person is in the owners household. Those people include includes parents, siblings, grandparents and grandchildren, in addition to someone like a spouse or children. The original owner just has to advise BMW of new user. "The program change will affect 2nd owners and for them BMW is introducing an optional full-maintenance product that covers the vehicle up to 100,000 miles," said Sparks. Scroll down to read the entire announcement.

2014 BMW 740Ld xDrive does diesel in a big way

Thu, 06 Feb 2014

Slowly but surely, BMW is expanding its lineup of diesel-powered models here in the United States. In addition to the 328d sedan and wagon, 535d sedan and X5 xDrive35d crossover, we now have this, the BMW 740Ld xDrive (not to mention the refreshed 2015 X3 xDrive28d that also makes its debut here in Chicago). As its name - and the photos above - suggest, this means BMW is offering diesel power in its flagship, long-wheelbase 7 Series sedan, set to directly compete with the likes of the excellent Audi A8 TDI.
Under the hood is BMW's familiar 3.0-liter turbocharged diesel inline-six, delivering 255 horsepower and 413 pound-feet of torque, all of which is sent to the road via the company's xDrive all-wheel-drive system and ZF eight-speed automatic transmission. That torque thrust is available straight away from 1,500 rpm, and BMW says the 740Ld xDrive will sprint to 60 miles per hour in a very respectable 6.1 seconds. Official fuel economy estimates haven't been released yet, but we expect the car to net highway fuel economy ratings in the mid-30 range.
The 740Ld xDrive arrives in BMW showrooms this spring, priced from $82,500, not including $925 for destination. We're pretty stoked to drive it. But in the meantime, have a look at fresh images of the big sedan live from the Chicago Auto Show, above.

BMW to launch loaner program to avoid range anxiety on i models

Tue, 12 Mar 2013

BMW is looking to stave off electric vehicle range anxiety with a new program that offers buyers a free gasoline loaner with every i3 purchase. Ward's Auto reports BMW is confident that the EV will give buyers the kind of transportation they need for 90 percent of their trips. The loaners, meanwhile, will be available for those few occasions when drivers need to cover more ground than the machine's batteries will allow. The i3 gets around with help from a 180-horsepower electric motor paired with a lithium-ion battery pack.
The combo is good for trips of between 80 and 100 miles depending on driving habits and weather conditions, though BMW also plans to offer a model with a small two-cylinder range-extending gasoline engine as well. That option will likely set you back an additional $4,000. When the machine bows in 2014, it will likely come with a charge time of four to six hours when suckling from a 220-volt outlet.
As far as the conventionally powered loaner car goes, the cost of the program is included in the i3's purchase price, though BMW has yet to figure out how many free loans will be offered, or what happens after that threshold is reached.
