During its 5-years on the road, the car has had only two drivers (the original lease-holder and me) -- no kids, no pets, and no smoking. There are a couple of marks on the rear bumper, and the front tires will need to be replaced. Other than that, the car is in excellent condition. The BMW Maintenance Upgrade package and BMW Pre-Owned Limited Warranty will transfer with the title. Both are valid through July 2014. I estimate the remaining value of the warranties at $1,000."

HISTORY

I purchased this beautiful BMW X3 as a Certified Pre-Owned vehicle when it came off of lease in November 2011.  The car has had two owners during its 5 years on the road (the original lease-holder and me).  The car has been kid-free, pet-free, and smoke-free in that time.  I am selling the car because I'm planning an overseas move, and I can't take the car with me.  Trust me, I'd prefer not toe sell it.

CONDITION

The car is in pristine condition.  The carpets and interior leather look brand new.  The rear bumper has a couple of minor marks from city living.  I just had the car serviced and detailed.  I replaced the brake pads, and the dealership noted that the front tires will need to be replaced soon.  I have had no maintenance issues, and the car is amazingly fun to drive.

WARRANTIES

The extended Certified Pre-Owned limited warranty and Extended Maintenance coverage will expire in July 2014.  I estimate the remaining value of these warranties at about $1,000.

BMW maintenance plan no longer transferrable to 2nd owner

Tue, 12 Aug 2014

One of the best innovations in car buying in recent years is the rise of no-cost scheduled maintenance programs. Many people feel really anxious about taking their car in for service, and these deals help mitigate that somewhat. Obviously, it's not free for automakers to implement the offers, and now BMW is altering the way its four-year, 50,000-mile Maintenance Program works for some owners. "To keep such an offer sustainable we had to make a change," said Kenn Sparks, Manager of Business Communications at BMW North America, to Autoblog via email.
The original person to buy or lease the model isn't going to see any difference, but the program is no longer transferable to a second owner, unless that person is in the owners household. Those people include includes parents, siblings, grandparents and grandchildren, in addition to someone like a spouse or children. The original owner just has to advise BMW of new user. "The program change will affect 2nd owners and for them BMW is introducing an optional full-maintenance product that covers the vehicle up to 100,000 miles," said Sparks. These are the top luxury cars bought by people entering the segment for the first time

Fri, 25 Jul 2014

Let's say you just got a big promotion at work or the kids are moving out of the house, and you finally have some extra money. You decide to blow it all at once and treat yourself by upgrading your ride. Naturally, you look to a luxury automaker. What do you choose?
Models like the Audi A3 and Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class may be tailor-made to introduce buyers to the premium segment, but a new study finds that they don't garner the highest rates of non-luxury customer conquests. It turns out that a Volvo leads among folks moving up to a premium brand, and it isn't even one that's made anymore, at that.
A recent study by Polk and IHS Automotive looked at what models had the highest rates of buyers upgrading from a non-luxury segment. The information comes from its new vehicle registration data through April 2014. All ten top models boasted conquest rates of over 50 percent, but the Volvo C70 led the field with 68.01 percent of its customers coming from non-premium brands.

2016 BMW X5 M is big and bold, not beautiful

Wed, 19 Nov 2014

Awesome as it is, the BMW X5 M has never really been an attractive machine. Big and bulgy are the themes here, and that's only more pronounced with the X5's most recent refresh. But no matter, the X5 M has never been about looks - for this machine, it's all about performance, and BMW's hi-po crossover absolutely delivers in this regard.
Under the hood is the familiar 4.4-liter, twin-turbo V8, though power has been boosted to 567 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque - healthy increases of 12 and 53, respectively, compared to the outgoing model. Hitting 60 miles per hour is said to take just four seconds, which is damn impressive considering this thing weighs well over 5,000 pounds.
But the X5 M has always been shockingly good to drive, with limits you'll never reach except in the most hardcore track scenarios (which we'd really like to see, by the way). It's not the prettiest thing ever, but that's okay. It's not exactly cheap, though, with prices starting at $99,650. Woof.
