1988 Bmw M5 Base Sedan 4-door 3.5l on 2040-cars
Kennebunk, Maine, United States
1988 BMW M5 vin#
WBSDC9304J2875220 with 151K miles, in excellent condition with over 12K
invested within the last 3K miles. It’s
black with natural tan leather. The doors, trunk, hood and dashboard all have
the vin# present. The windshield and
window glass are all BMW and not aftermarket. This is quite remarkable considering the age
of the vehicle. The tires are new and the rims look new with no road rash of
any kind. I replaced the battery this
spring and the car has a current State of Maine inspection sticker. Currently, the car doesn’t need anything
except a driver who’ll enjoy it!
It doesn’t have any rust and
the paint is in good condition. I would
rate the exterior an 8/10. No dents or
door dings are present, but it does have some scratches and other minor
imperfections. However, it does present
itself extremely well.
The interior is also in good
condition with the original radio intact. The power seats/windows all work accordingly. The only issue with the interior is the
driver’s seat has a 1” split from a crease that dried out over the years. Other than that, the seats are in great
condition. Please see pics. I
would rate the interior an 8.5/10. The
dashboard does have cracks, which is typical of most European makes of this
era. Please see pics. The a/c was converted to R134 in 2010 and
blows ice cold air.
The stock self - leveling
suspension was replaced with a Bilstein sport kit and has been lowered. It handles like it’s on rails! It has a stainless steel exhaust with a new
catalytic converter. The exhaust note is
incredible!
The sunroof operates when it
feels like it. I think the switch is bad
and needs to be replaced, so I’m told. The electric antenna was replaced in 2010 and
is fully functional.
I purchased the car in 2012
from a German auto enthusiast. He
purchased it in 2010 with 149K on the clock with the intention of investing
whatever it took to get the car up to his standards. He lost his storage and was forced to sell the
car. Please see the condensed list
below of the work performed between 149K and 151K. If you’re a serious buyer, I can email you a
detailed list of everything done to the car since 2010 or within the last 3K. However, I do have a binder full of records
dating back earlier than that. I do have
the original owners manual for the car and radio, as well as, the original ’88 service
book. These are all in excellent
condition. The car is for sale locally so I reserve the right to end the auction at anytime. A/C R134 conversion including

BMW and Mini shuffle NA management, McDowell to retire
Wed, 04 Dec 2013BMW and Mini recently shuffled top personnel in their design departments, and now BMW of North America will reorganize its management to improve customer relations. Peter Miles (pictured), currently the executive vice president of operations, will take a newly created position, vice president of sales channel development and customer relations, while Jim McDowell, vice president of Mini of the Americas, will retire.
Chris Koenders, president of BMW Group Netherlands, will move take Miles' spot as executive vice president of operations. David Duncan, western region vice president, will take McDowell's job as vice president of Mini of the Americas. Finishing off the management switcharoo is Peter Witt, who will move from his current position as Managing Director of BMW Sweden to take Duncan's job as western region vice president.
"We are intensifying our customer-driven focus and these changes will influence the entire organization to continue improving all phases of the customer journey from prospect to purchase and throughout the ownership cycle," says Ludwig Willisch, president and CEO of BMW NA. For more information on the management reorganization, check out the press release below.
2015 BMW 2 Series Convertible will flip its lid for $38,850
Tue, 09 Sep 2014
For the most part, they look almost identical to their coupe versions, except that they now boast an electrically folding soft top.
BMW is dropping the top of the 2 Series in early 2015 in the US with convertible versions of the 228i and M235i. They'll make their world debut at the Paris Motor Show later this year and will show their faces on this side of the pond at the 2014 Los Angeles International Auto Show.
BMW 2 Series caught uncovered during shoot
Thu, 16 May 2013Before we know it, the BMW 1 Series will be no more in the United States. Well, sort of. The current six-year-old coupe and convertible will be replaced by the fancy new 2 Series you see here, spotted completely uncovered during a photo shoot, with the 1 Series nomenclature being reserved for the hatchback and GT models that might not ever make it Stateside.
The roofline of the new 2 Series doesn't appear to have to changed all that much from the current 1 Series coupe, but the front and rear fascias have indeed been smoothed out. (Truth time: As much as your author adores the 1 Series, he's always found its rear end to be, well, weird.) It looks good, seen here in M235i guise, with large wheels, slimmer headlamps and large air intakes on either side of the front fascia.
The 2 Series is expected to come to the States, likely in M235i and 228i variants, though rumors suggest that we won't get a non-M 235i model. The M235i is expected to be powered by the N55 turbocharged inline-six that we currently enjoy in the 335i sedan, producing something like 320 horsepower. The 228i, unsurprisingly, should use the 2.0-liter turbo-four from the 328i, making around 240 hp. Both engines will almost certainly employ eight-speed automatic transmissions and six-speed manuals.
