1991 BMW 850i, V-12 Automatic, Calypso Red, fully loaded, and just turned 83,370 original miles. The car is priced way below market to SELL. I have a new toy arriving this week and need the space.

This is not your typical 850. For a start it has only 83,370 miles and the engine really shows it. The car starts easily and the engine is silky smooth and revs easily. This is fitted with the Wokke performance chip, Magnaflow mufflers and X-pipe and it sounds pretty angry. Not too loud but nothing like standard.

The car drives great, air and heat work perfectly, cruise, tilt, power seat, radio, lighting, accessories, etc all work. This car runs smooth and peppy, it shifts and stops properly, and is really a pleasure to drive. The H&R Lowering Springs and the 18x9 and 18x8 wheels provide for a firm but comfortable ride.

The car was lowered with H&R Springs. The Drilled/Slotted Brake Rotors, Ruff racing wheels and tires, ECS Wheel Spacers, and Lowering Springs all have about 3500 miles or less on them. The engine has been fitted by the prior owner with the Wokke Performance chips, they do make a difference in performance. The Mufflers and X-pipe have about a 2-3000 miles on them. Brand new batteries, so all is good there too. The fuel pump was replaced using genuine BMW fuel pump. Intake gaskets have been recently replaced along with new NGK Plugs.

These cars have a common problem in that the computer loses its pixels and becomes unreadable. This unit has been replaced with a refurbished computer and ALL pixels are working perfectly as you can see in the video below. Rear brake pads were replaced less than 100 miles ago. Brand new BMW driver's side lower door seal.

I am including with this car the Euro style door mirrors which, at least in my opinion, are vastly superior in terms of styling (see final photos). They just need to be painted to match and fitted. Finally I am including an original BMW radio in case you wish to revert the car to original.

I do have the original Suspension, brake parts and also the exhaust. All of which are included. Again in case you want to revert the car to original spec OR you can sell them.

The car has a small battery drain which has been traced to the driver's door. I have purchased replacement modules which need to be installed. A mechanic should be able to do this easily. One or the other is the likely culprit.

Bodywork and paint is solid, a few dings which is to be expected on a 23 year old car. The rear bumper is showing a little sign of heat to the paint and a fresh coat of clear should resolve that.

The big ticket items on a car of this type is the power train and you wont find a smoother engine.

Is the BMW i8 actually already sold out?

Mon, 02 Dec 2013

The other day we brought you a report from Reuters, which quoted BMW's global sales chief Ian Robertson as saying that the Bavarian automaker had already sold out the entire year's production run of its new i8. Impressive, sure, but perhaps not all that unusual for a groundbreaking new sportscar from a major automaker, of which only limited quantities are typically built. But is the i8 really sold out?
Our compatriots at Car and Driver chased down the story and report that Robertson's claims aren't exactly accurate. According to C/D, the numbers are based on sales projections, not actual orders taken. So while BMW may build upwards of 1,900 i8 coupes next year and over 5,000 in 2015, and while they're all expected to sell, that doesn't mean that it's too late to get your order in. That is, assuming you have the $135k on hand and don't mind getting just three cylinders back in return.

2014 BMW M6 Gran Coupe

Wed, 08 May 2013

Is This A Great Idea For An M Model?
The BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe is already an issue of large debate. The essential business case for the car is that it's more distinctive than a straight 5 or 6 Series, and has much of the sense of space and luxury of a 7 Series. It has the wheelbase of a 5 Series, the relative width of a 6 Series, and an exterior length close to the standard wheelbase 7 Series. And, as we reported in our drive of the 640i Gran Coupe in May 2012, the 6 Series Gran Coupe costs pretty much the same as the 7 Series, engine trim for engine trim. The sedan (coupe?) is therefore a proposal clearly meant for an extremely particular clientele. There's no news yet on how well exactly the 6 Series Gran Coupe is selling in its chief markets, but we are curious. The Germans frequently tend not to break out their sales figures that way, mixing sales of the Gran Coupe in with the two-door 6 Series.
And, so, we have now arrived at the inevitable point where the M version must be introduced. Say howdy to the $113,000 2014 BMW M6 Gran Coupe (actually $115,195 for starters with all of the taxes added). That's $4,650 more than the also highly priced M6 coupe. Let the vehement debates begin. The upcoming 2014 Audi RS7 should be priced right at this level as well, and the Mercedes-Benz CLS63 AMG (perhaps with an S iteration in the next allotment we get Stateside) should go for roughly the same.

Meet the inventor of the BMW 3 Series wagon

Sat, 11 May 2013

It's hard to imagine, but once upon a time, there were only two BMW 3 Series variants: the coupe and sedan. Back before gran coupes, convertibles and yes, even touring models were available, buyers could only get their 3 Series fix if it came with two or four doors and a fixed roof. Back in the mid '80s, BMW engineer Max Reisbock was having some trouble fitting his whole family into his four door. Rather than suck it up and buy a van, he picked up a wrecked 3 Series and got to cutting in a buddy's garage. Months later, he had the very first 3 Series Touring ever built.
At first, he kept the the car to himself, using it to haul friends and family around, but he eventually showed it off to his friends at work. When the BMW executives found out about his project, they called him up to take a closer look. After putting an eyeball on the car, they took it, copied his design, made a few tweaks and quickly rolled out the first production 3 Series Touring. How's that for validation? Check out the video below for Reisbock's story.
