Up for auction my 2001 740i Sport, gray/black, 139k miles, Sport M package includes M steering wheel, M parallel 18" wheels, Sport suspension, special ratio diff for quick acceleration, shadowline trim, seats, etc. RARE!
I have owned it for about 3 years. It is probably the smoothest, fastest luxury car I have ever driven. Purchased it here on ebay from a wealthy exec. that put mostly highway miles on it to commute.
That man spared no expenses. There is still a stack of receipts in the trunk from his ownership. That's why I chose the car at that time.
Some of those repairs included: New instrument cluster (for pixel issue), New navi. drive, New CD changer, New headliner, Battery, Alternator and much more.
During my ownership I have replaced: All front suspension arms and links, brakes front and rear, front ABS sensors, a/c compressor, aux. fan, both vanos, all timing chains, rails, tensioners, belts, front cup holder, fluids, filters, 4 conti extreme tires and more.
Engine is smooth, quite, very powerful and efficient on fuel. No smoke, however it has a minor oil leak (I was told valve covers needed) but hasn't been bad enough for me to address nor do I ever seem to have to add oil.
Transmission shifts smoother and faster than my friend's brand new Mercedes!
I have enough confidence in this car that someone could get in and drive it across the country at high speed in comfort and safety.
A few cosmetic issues are: The clear coat on top surfaces is starting to dull (see pics), the driver's seat lumbar support leaks (bladder behind the leather is new, I'm told small pump motor needs replacement), The glove box handle is loose (I have the new parts),
I have both remote keys, but the batteries are dead inside for operating the locks by remote (repair service avail. here on ebay $75), windshield has a pebble size blemish (been there since the previous owner), hazard switch loose and wood has hairline cracks.
Everything important works as it should. Xenon headlights, roof, windows etc. No warning messages.
Happy bidding...

BMW CS reinterpretation proves retro can be sexy [w/video]
Fri, 28 Mar 2014Designer David Obendorfer doesn't work for BMW, but perhaps the German automaker should give him a call. His CS Vintage Concept shows a singular ability to understand the brand's classic style and reinterpret it for today. He isn't some amateur, either. Obendorfer has an industrial design degree and has been penning the interiors and exteriors of yachts from the Officina Italiana Design for five years, which counts luxury shipbuilders like Riva and Sanlorenzo among its clients. His website shows a real passion and knack for modernizing '60s and '70s European cars, too.
Obendorfer prefers to reimagine classic automotive styles. "Retro cars are not copies of their predecessors or renovated specimens, rather they are carefully studied reconsiderations, strongly rooted in contemporary style," he tells Autoblog. For the CS Vintage Concept, he worked to update the looks of the seminal BMW 2000CS and its E9 chassis while placing them on a modern platform. Obendorfer's inspiration comes from his belief that the later CS models' design is partially responsible for defining BMW styling, with its shark-nose front and four round headlights.
The CS Vintage Concept's shape starts with a jutting hood and a quartet of LED headlights, but the whole design really comes together in profile. The Hofmeister Kink at the rear pillar with the BMW Roundel is a nice nod to the originals, yet the proportions still find the perfect fusion of classic and modern. The interior is minimalist, with a vast expanse of wood for the dashboard at first glance, but the latter opens to expose the car's infotainment system.
BMW starts Apple-like "Genius" program to explain tech
Wed, 20 Feb 2013Even workaday cars are so capable now that even most auto scribes don't truly find out about a car's limits until a professional driver shows them what they are. It's the same with a vehicle's suite of features and the technology inside - there's so much of it that most people will have no idea what their cars can offer them. BMW is the latest company to make a personal effort to change that, introducing "young, tech-savvy employees" to dealerships as part of its "BMW Genius Everywhere" initiative.
Having no part in the actual sale of a vehicle, a BMW Genius is present on the showroom floor only to answer questions about the company's products and their features. If the customer decides to buy, he is transferred to a salesperson. A pilot program in the UK proved its effectiveness, it will now be rolled out across Europe and then come to the United States toward the end of this year in time for the launch of the i3. Details are still being worked out, but each BMW dealer will have at least one Genius.
For assistance that doesn't require visiting the auto mall, BMW is also putting vehicle and feature tutorials on its US website to "make our knowledge about our brand more interesting and more accessible to the consumer." They will appear online sometime in the latter half of the year, and will also be bundled into iPhone and iPad apps.
BMW Films are on the way back [w/videos]
Mon, 17 Feb 2014The BMW Films series caused a stir in 2001 and 2002 by combining top-quality cinematography, Hollywood names and driving excitement to sell its sporty wares in a whole new way. By arriving five years before YouTube, they ranked as some of the earliest viral videos on the internet. By now, these sorts of films are almost commonplace, but back when BMW hit upon the idea, the idea of brand-integrated short films on the internet was still a novelty. Now, for the first time in over a decade, the German automaker is planning on bringing back BMW Films for a new season.
Trudy Hardy, BMW North America Vice President of Marketing, announced the series' return at the 2014 Automotive News World Congress in Detroit, according to Ad Age. However, neither the German brand nor Anonymous Content, the original production company, have been willing to comment further on when the new videos are coming.
The original series of eight films starred Clive Owen as the Driver (back then, Owen was largely unknown to American audiences), a mercenary who would take a variety of jobs and always drive a BMW. David Fincher executive produced the first season and directors included top names like John Frankenheimer, Ang Lee and Guy Ritchie. All of the second season movies had Owen driving a Z4, but in our estimation, the quality had fallen off a bit compared to the outstanding first season.
