1993 Bmw 740il Base Sedan 4-door 4.0l on 2040-cars
North Granby, Connecticut, United States
Up for bid is a very clean, 1 owner 1993 BMW 740il. This is BMW's flagship. It priced at over $53,000 in 1993. The car is truly amazing. It has brand new Nexen tires on BMW's honeycombed wheels. I have a set of 18" parallel chrome wheels for a bit extra. The engine starts and runs smooth and strong. The suspension is tight. I just had every rubber gasket underneath replaced, including the oil pan, transmission selector shaft, differential seals and more. There are absolutely zero leaks in this car. The propeller shaft carrier bearing is brand new. The undercarriage is completely rust free. In fact, there is no rust on the car anywhere! It is a one owner car, I am the second owner. The car has a phone, on board computer, CD changer in the trunk...it even has a tool kit. The battery is brand new.
Now...for the things it needs to bring it to immaculate condition. It needs a windshield, as a rock hit it and a small crack has started. The bottom of the passenger door has a small crease. The transmission hesitates when you shift from drive to reverse. Other than these things, I don't see anything else that needs to be fixed.
Now...why am I selling the car? I initially purchased this BMW for my daughter. She feels that the car is too big for her and wants a smaller car. Simply put...I bought the car for more than I have listed, put even more into it (for my daughter's safety) and now am selling it so I can get her a different [smaller] car.
I've attempted to describe this car as accurately as possible. This is sold "as is" with no warranty or guarantee.
This BMW can be an amazing ride for the bidder who wins. |

Bangle urges auto design shakeup, says industry not innovating
Fri, 30 Aug 2013Controversial designer Chris Bangle, the man behind the notorious E65 BMW 7-Series "Bangle Butt," has some rather sharp criticism for the current crop of automotive designers in an upcoming full-length interview with Automotive News Europe. The preview, posted on Automotive News, details parts of the interview, with the always vocal Bangle lamenting the state of modern automotive design.
"Even concept cars today simply anticipate the next production model coming down the line. Is this innovation? No. And at the end of the day this is what's preventing car design from moving into a new era." Controversial as Bangle's design philosophy may be, we can't help but think he has a point. His so-called "flame surfacing" at BMW and other stylistic elements had a huge influence on modern automotive design, although as the years have passed, there hasn't been much innovation on the same scale.
Interestingly, Bangle also mentions that he's been courted by a few manufacturers that wanted to install the American as the head of their design teams. He's flatly rejected them, telling ANE, "It's not something you can do part time, you have to do it with all your heart and soul or you're going to get it wrong."
Next BMW X6 to be larger, more aggressive
Tue, 16 Apr 2013If the current BMW X6, introduced in 2008, is looking a bit too bland for your tastes, have no fear as the next-generation model is reportedly going to be larger and more aggressive than its predecessor.
Autocar is reporting that an insider has revealed the all-new second-generation X6 will make its world debut at the 2014 Moscow Motor Show, going on sale just after summer. More aggressive styling will help BMW distinguish its sportier X6 from BMW's more practical models, such as the X3 and X5, said the source.
The next X6 will again share platforms with the X5, but it will be stretched slightly to provide second-row passengers with more legroom. Powerplants will also likely mirror those of its mainstream cousin, including a range of turbocharged six- and eight-cylinder engines and a range-topping M model (the 2013 BMW X6 M is show above).
2015 BMW S 1000 RR looks to retain sportbike supremacy
Tue, 30 Sep 2014The BMW S 1000 RR is already a pretty potent member of the superbike ranks, but BMW is revealing a host of upgrades for this two-wheeled lightning bolt at the Intermot 2014 motorcycle show that should make it even faster.
The biggest additions to the latest 1000 RR are its new cylinder head, lighter valves and different intake cam to tweak even more power from the bike's 1.0-liter, four-cylinder engine, and BMW now rates it at a claimed 196 horsepower (or 199 horses if you go with the European measurement, converted from 146 kilowatts), a boost over the first-gen's 193 ponies, and 83 pound-feet of torque through a six-speed gearbox. Those adjustments would probably be enough to make the cycle a tick faster alone, but the Bavarian engineers also cut 8.82 pounds (4 kg) to bring the motorcycle's weight with a full tank of fuel to a feather-light 450 pounds. Much of that diet comes from the redesigned exhaust that cuts about 6.6 pounds off the scales.
Cradling that tweaked engine is a redesigned, lighter frame with fully adjustable springs. The bike also comes standard with Race ABS, stability control, seven-step variable traction control and three riding modes. In terms of styling, all of these changes are communicated through an updated fairing with repositioned, though still asymmetric, headlights.
