THE BODY AND TRIM
The exterior of this car is in very good nearly perfectly rust-free condition overall. The stately arcticblau paint finish still has a very nice lustrous shine with a few defects including some clear-coat failure on the roof and hood areas along with some miscellaneous minor nicks, blemishes and scuffs on the body. The chrome wheels have a nice shine with excellent virtually new rubber and fresh BMW center cap emblems.
This handsome thirty year old classic BMW would be a great local show attendee that also stills garners much attention on the road!

THE INTERIOR
As I hope is articulated in the many photos here, the interior of this non-smoker car is in VERY good to excellent all original condition overall with beautiful almost crack-free dash, nice original blue leather electric  seats [showing some light wear and cracking particularly on the drivers seat], in-dash Panasonic stereo, COLD air conditioning, electric sunroof and windows, OBC[inop currently] and more. Overall, this is a very handsome cockpit which stills show pride of ownership thirty years later!

THE DRIVING EXPERIENCE
This classic BMW starts, runs and drives VERY well and EXTREMELY SMOOTH with respectable acceleration from the superb-running 3.2 liter six cylinder engine, silky smooth shifting transmission, excellent straight braking with good pedal feel, supple rattle or clunk-free suspension, quiet exhaust and confident handling with very nice steering feel. Overall this 633CSi provides an elegant and satisfying driving experience!

2014 BMW 535d xDrive

Thu, 20 Feb 2014

I absolutely love to travel, but man, do I hate flying. Not the act of flying itself, but air travel in general - slogging through the airport, dealing with security, fighting with delays, only to finally be crammed like cattle into a too-small airplane seat where you're offered $8 sandwiches that are half-frozen. (Okay, it's not always that bad, but still.)
So when I was tasked with attending the launch for the 2015 Subaru WRX STI in Carmel, CA, I had a choice to make. I could fly into San Francisco and find my own way down to Carmel, or I could grab a turbo-prop out of SFO and fly directly into Monterey. And since you're reading about all of this in a car review, it's pretty obvious which option I chose.
The current BMW 5 Series isn't a new car, despite receiving a couple of updates for the 2014 model year. But what is new is the 3.0-liter turbodiesel inline six-cylinder engine found underhood, borrowed from the larger X5 xDrive35d and also seen in the upcoming 740Ld xDrive. It's a honey of an engine, and here in the 5 Series, it makes for a truly first-class experience.

Jay Leno puts focus on some retro-inspired BMW bikes

Mon, 28 Jul 2014

Jay Leno puts eight wheels on display this week for Jay Leno's Garage from a quartet of retro-inspired BMW motorcycles. They are the creations of husband and wife team Larry and Carol Romestant, who build each one in their home garage.
Larry is a former aerospace engineer who loves BMW bikes, especially the K models. Now, he's combining his passion with a real talent for fabrication to build his own cycles with his wife. With Larry and Carol the only ones working on these projects, it takes them six to nine months to build each one. In addition to the old-school looks, the motorcycles are supposed to be a bit more user friendly than stock. For example, one of them ditches the standard five-speed gearbox in favor of a six-speed unit to be a little more comfy when cruising at high speeds.
Since there isn't enough time to take all four of them for a ride, Jay picks his favorite to test out on the open road. Scroll down to see which one he chooses.

Bangle urges auto design shakeup, says industry not innovating

Fri, 30 Aug 2013

Controversial designer Chris Bangle, the man behind the notorious E65 BMW 7-Series "Bangle Butt," has some rather sharp criticism for the current crop of automotive designers in an upcoming full-length interview with Automotive News Europe. The preview, posted on Automotive News, details parts of the interview, with the always vocal Bangle lamenting the state of modern automotive design.
"Even concept cars today simply anticipate the next production model coming down the line. Is this innovation? No. And at the end of the day this is what's preventing car design from moving into a new era." Controversial as Bangle's design philosophy may be, we can't help but think he has a point. His so-called "flame surfacing" at BMW and other stylistic elements had a huge influence on modern automotive design, although as the years have passed, there hasn't been much innovation on the same scale.
Interestingly, Bangle also mentions that he's been courted by a few manufacturers that wanted to install the American as the head of their design teams. He's flatly rejected them, telling ANE, "It's not something you can do part time, you have to do it with all your heart and soul or you're going to get it wrong."
