This car has been a fun and reliable commuter of mine for the past eight years, but unfortunately I must sell it for financial reasons. This car was produced in Germany in 1998, the last year that the E36 was made. As a result, this particular car has had a lot of the kinks and bugs that you'll find in other year E36's ironed out. This car also has the premium package with spoked aluminum alloy wheels, a grey leather interior, power everything, heated seats, remote entry, and a 6-CD changer.
Even better, practically everything still works! The engine and drivetrain are quiet, powerful, and smooth; the alignment is true; the steering is tight; the interior is in great condition; the AC is cold; the rubber and brakes are above 60%; and all the little Night Rider style electronics work just as they should. Now nothing is perfect, and unfortunately the sunroof is stuck shut (but still keeps rain out), there is a crack in the windshield, and there are a few minor dings in some panels, which are worst in the rear (from getting bumped at low speed in a parking lot). Pictures of windshield and rear provided for your own assessment. One important thing to note is that the cooling system for this car was completely replaced (by a BMW shop) four years ago, after a leak popped up. Without fail, the car has been working perfectly fine ever since, and has not had any cooling issues. That this happened to ME (and not you) is a huge plus for any potential buyer, as this is really the only major (and expensive) service job that E36's usually require. I've maintained this car diligently with synthetic oil and 89 octane fuel. It has had its BMW Inpsection II Service completed at 110k miles. This car has passed emissions every time since I bought it, with the exception of having to replace the gas-cap once when I moved to WA. Current registration good until August 2015. I have all the service records for your reference. I also have chains, a spare key and remote, and a Bentley service manual that I'm throwing in to sweeten the deal. Here's a video clip of the car starting up cold and revving to 4k and then 6k RPM: Readers Digest Version: Pros: Everything works (except sunroof) New engine cooling system (have service records) Completely stock through and through Alignment is true New disks (cross drilled) and pads (at 80%) Tires at 60% Regular synthetic oil changes Super clean interior Power Everything Includes chains, extra keys, service manual, service records Passes Emissions Cons: Sunroof stuck shut (still seals out rain) Crack in windshield Minor body damage in rear Message me if you are interested, have more questions, want more pictures, or want a full car fax report. Thanks for looking! On Sep-16-14 at 16:35:54 PDT, seller added the following information: VERY IMPORTANT SHIPPING/PAYMENT/SCHEDULE DETAILS - PLEASE READ... I just realized I will be out of town, camping, from September 18th-21st. As a result, I will be away from the internet and out of cell service during these days. If you want to buy this car, you must be OK with dealing with full payment and shipping details on Monday, Sept 22nd. Rest assured, if you win the auction, and send me the initial $500 deposit within 24 hours, you get dibs on the car, and its yours as soon as the full payment comes through. Check my eBay record, I am a trusted and reputable seller, and do not want to mess that up, so I just wanted to be clear that I will not be able to communicate with anyone between September 18th-21st. BMW looking to fix i3 acceleration problem uncovered by Consumer Reports
Fri, 10 Oct 2014The BMW i3 has been hailed in some quarters as the future of electric mobility, what with its innovative carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic body and commitment to sustainable materials wherever possible. The modernist little hatch is even available with a 650cc two-cylinder gas engine with 34 horsepower to act as a range-extender for those who want it. However, that optional engine might have a drawback - at least for the moment.
Consumer Reports brought the problem to light when one of its drivers was behind the wheel of an i3 using the range-extender. When the driver attempted to pass another vehicle on a rolling, two-lane road, the BMW suddenly had no power to accelerate - a scary situation. CR started examining the car and found something pretty shocking: After driving at a constant speed for a while without any regenerative braking in range-extended mode, acceleration to 60 miles per hour plummeted from about 9 seconds normally to a staggering 27 to 40 seconds in their testing.
A BMW spokesperson told CR that it knows about the problem and has a fix coming next spring that also works on current models. The upgrade includes a state of charge indicator, a warning about loss of power and uses the car's navigation to boost the battery before driving on rolling terrain. It is not clear if the severe power deficiency will also eventually result in a recall.
2014 BMW M6 Gran Coupe is ready for your favorite roads
Mon, 14 Jan 2013We've known about the ins and outs of the lovely BMW M6 Gran Coupe for a while now, but that doesn't mean we weren't happy to see the thing in the metal for the first time, here in Detroit.
The M-tuned Gran Coupe utilizes the same 4.4-liter forced-induction V8 that powers both the BMW M6 and the M5, with an output of 560 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque. The fast four-door brings up 60 miles per hour in just 4.1-seconds - the same sprint time as the M6 coupe and a few tenths quicker than the M5 - and up to a limited top speed of 155 mph.
We love those performance figures - this is one new Bimmer that we're amped to get some seat time in - though we're not super crazy about the selection of chrome wheels on this particular show car. Tells us what you think about the hotted up Gran Coupe in comments, below.
BMW 2 Series Active Tourer pulls its way onto the stage
Wed, 05 Mar 2014We know what you might be thinking: here comes another BMW with yet another kind of roofline. Only this isn't just another BMW. It's the first front-drive BMW, and the first time we've ever seen it in person.
That model, of course, is the new 2 Series Active Tourer, debuting here in Geneva as the production version of the Concept Active Tourer and the beefier Concept Active Tourer Outdoor that followed. It shares about as much with the 2 Series Coupe as a jelly donut, but takes BMW into a new market segment - that of the high-roofed hatchback (or micro-minivan, depending on your perspective) occupied by the likes of the Mercedes-Benz B-Class and Volkswagen Golf Sportsvan.
Power comes from a choice of 1.5-liter turbo three, 2.0-liter turbo four or 2.0-liter turbodiesel - but aside from the forced-induction engines what they all the versions have in common is what makes the 2 Series Active Tourer newsworthy: they all sit up front, driving the front wheels. It's an idea BMW purists might not appreciate, but one we'd all better get used to just the same.
