98 BMW 323is / ONE OWNER - 192,000 miles

Leaving country, must sell. Spent its life in Texas and has been garaged 90% of the time. Maintained extremely well over the last 14 years. Have reinvested $4500 in last two years into the car. New shocks and struts have less than 1500 miles. The paint is in excellent condition. There have been some body work over the life of the car due to some minor accidents. It runs almost like it did when it was new. Great first car for a teen or backup (second) car.

Recent repairs;

1. New tires on front (less than 100 miles). Back tires are 80% (new 2 years ago).
2. New battery.
3. New headliner.
4. Complete new front brake kit from BAVAUTO (rotors, pads, lines) / 4000 miles ago.
5. New transmission filter.
6. New valve cover gasket.
7. New front lights (one is less than a year old. the other is about 3 years old) * I do not like foggy lights.
8. New cab filter.
9. Used synthetic blend oil for last 70,000 miles. Maintained regularly.
10. New overflow reservoir.
11. Complete front end maintenance at approx. 100k miles (new radiator, water pump, thermostat, belt & hoses).
12. Just replaced driver side power window motor & actuator ($500).
13. Window tint just replaced 2 years ago.
14. NEW KTM shocks & struts (kit included all bushings, etc) / 1500 miles ago.

ISSUES:

1. Needs new oil pan gasket. Slight drip (2-3 drops per week).
2. Has two small dents in hood due to little kid jumping on it about a year ago. Other than that, the body is in perfect shape. Dents can probably be pulled out with paintless dent repair technique.

Is Audi getting complacent and suffering from brain drain?

Wed, 27 Nov 2013

The argument is made in a Reuters article: Audi is falling behind other luxury brands, such as Mercedes-Benz and BMW, due to a lack of research-and-development spending and "brain drain," or the migration of top executives and R&D chiefs to other parts of the Volkswagen Group. Reuters notes that Audi's current R&D chief is the third in 16 months.
Audi, which contributed to 40 percent of VW Group's $11.6 billion in profit the first nine months of the year, is delivering cars at a record pace: 1.31 million were delivered from January to October 2013 versus BMW's 1.35 million. Yet Audi, Reuters reports, doesn't have a halo car akin to BMW's new electrified i3 and i8 or an answer to Mercedes' plug-in-hybrid S-Class, and the R&D spending at Audi is less than BMW and Mercedes by a fair margin. It's noted in the article, however, that Audi benefits from other R&D spending within VW Group.
Reuters mentions that BMW "trumpets its new 'i' series" and the new Mercedes CLA and GLA ranges are winning "rave reviews" as part of its argument that Audi's recent lack of technological innovation could hurt future sales. Those cars do pack tons of new technology, some of which are firsts for mainstream production cars. But last time we checked, the i3 could be causing BMW's stock to slide, the CLA isn't receiving the rave reviews that Reuters would have you believe and the GLA hasn't been reviewed yet.

BMW may keep next 1 Series out of the US

Tue, 07 May 2013

As BMW prepares to introduce the all-new 2 Series coupe and convertible, the 1 Series name definitely won't be going away. We know new sedan and hatchback models are in the works; including the GT shown above. According to Car and Driver, though, the future of the 1 Series nameplate in the US could be dependent on rival premium small cars like the Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class and Audi A3.
In an interview with C/D, BMW's North American head of product planning and strategy, Paul Ferraiolo, said that pricing might be the biggest deterrent to offering the third-gen 1 Series in the US. As he points out, BMW currently prices the 1 not too far from the 3 Series, but Mercedes-Benz and Audi will have their new small cars priced well below the $30,000 mark. BMW's Mini brand will also factor into the consideration since the 1 GT will share its underpinnings with the next-gen Cooper lineup.

2014 BMW M5 facelift shows up online

Tue, 14 May 2013

Is it that time already? Like its predecessors, the current BMW M5 has been endangering US licenses since it first went on sale here in 2012, but its design became a known quantity back at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show. Apparently that also means that the F10 generation has already grown tired enough to the "Must Have Latest Set" who can afford these sorts of super saloons that a facelift is in order.
If these leaked images sourced from Autocar are anything to go by, BMW stylists have used a predictably light hand to rework their hottest 5 Series, with a revised grille that echoes the M6 along with modestly resculpted headlamps. The rear end appears wholly unaltered. Interior changes gleaned from a look at the cabin photos include an updated touchpad-equipped iDrive controller and a new steering wheel cribbed from the M6.
No new word on changes to the 4.4-liter, twin-turbo V8 powertrain, but in late April, we heard that BMW was readying new competition packages for the M5 and M6. The packages are said to include 15 more horsepower, revised suspension and steering, along with new wheels and blackened exhaust tips. Given that BMW is known for habitually underrating its cars' horsepower outputs (particularly its M models) we can't help but wonder if its engineers will need to do anything other than wave a magic wand to corral those extra ponies underhood...
