This is a clean, great running car. We replaced the motor a few months back and addressed every problem we encountered. The donor car was well cared for, just hit a deer. From the gasket material on the motor, we know the timing has been replaced. It also has a new water pump and new fuel pump. The tires, rims, suspension, clutch, glass and belts are all in great condition. The convertible top does need replacing, the back glass-plastic is bad on one side. The drivers seat is worn on the outside edges. The car is painted in a "purplish chameleon" color, its original color was white. It was this color when we bought it. It changes from purple to greenish-blue depending on the type of light shinning on it. The car does need another paint job in my opinion. This one does have scratches. I'm also selling the car on craigslist, so if it sells locally, the ad will be cancelled. There are no bad smells inside the car, no rust spots I'm aware of, no real body I can see (except on the front bumper), just a sweet little Beemer. Immediate payment at end of auction is required. Please ask any questions you have before you bid. Just run a check on this type of car and you'll be interested. The Kelly Blue Book only goes back to 1993 on the BMW 3 series, but the NADA places the value of this car with a "low retail value" at $4275, an average "retail value" at $5600 and a "high retail value" of $7275. The bad convertible top and paint job place this car in the average column. But, it's still a respectful BMW. Love them Beemers!

Will global automakers drop local JV partners if China's government says they can?

Wed, 02 Jul 2014

Chinese economic policies could be in for a big change, as President Xi Jinping pushes the communist country to open its domestic markets even further. That could mean big things for the auto industry, especially when it comes to the country's far-reaching joint-venture system.
According to Chinese law, foreign automakers may only maintain a fifty-fifty partnership with their domestic counterparts. But with Jinping's push for openness leading to potential free-trade deals, that policy could be relaxed (or eradicated all together) in short order. What's an automaker to do?
Well, in BMW's case, stay the course. Automotive News Europe reports that, despite the grumblings about the JV policy changes, the German manufacturer has resigned its agreement with Brilliance through 2028. This is made doubly remarkable by the fact that BMW signed the extension over three years before it was set to expire.

Next-gen Mini could sire 10 different models including PHEV

Sat, 12 Oct 2013

The first generation of the reimagined, BMW-backed Mini was a simple things, confined to two body styles - hatchback and four-seat convertible. It wasn't until the second-generation platform came along that Mini began truly expanding, offering a long-wheelbase model, a roadster, a coupe, a five-door crossover, and a three-door, um, thing?
BMW is aiming for 10 to 12 different vehicles from just two brands off one platform.
According to an interview between Automotive News Europe and the BMW board member that oversees Mini, Peter Schwarzenbauer, the funky British brand will be expanding far beyond the seven body styles it currently offers. "With the new ULK architecture, we currently have in mind eight to 10 models," Schwarzenbauer told ANE. That architecture he mentions, will also underpin the BMW 1 Series GT and the BMW X1, meaning that BMW is aiming for 10 to 12 different vehicles from just two brands off one platform (and that's only what we know about).

BMW 2 Series to wear 230i, M240i nameplates

Wed, 19 Nov 2014

BMW might not be done tweaking its naming scheme quite yet. Of course, at this point, the jumble of numbers on the back of the Bavarian models has no connection to what's under the hood. So there's not much reason to stop changing the monikers now.
As Autoblog reported a few months ago, BMW is slotting upgraded, turbocharged four- and six-cylinder engines called the B48 and B58, respectively, into the 3 and 4 Series. If this happens, the 328i/428i would become the 330i/430i, and the 335i/435i would turn into the 340i/440i.
Obviously, this change hasn't happened yet, but the same member of 2Addicts, a portion of the larger Bimmerpost community has now claimed that the 228i and M235i would get the same treatment. They would become the 230i and M240i, respectively, with the new engines.
