The wife says we're moving and some toys aren't coming with!  My loss is your gain: my 1976 BMW 2002 for sale after the hard work is done!  Not just a slogan - I literally DO have thousands in receipts over the past year getting this car mechanically sound!  This car is currently a registered PA Classic Vehicle.

If you research the VIN you'll see this '02 was the last production run of 2002's and widely known to be the most reliable and easy to maintain.  This car doesn't have the finicky emissions equipment that the earlier '02's had, and BMW had fixed all their bugs on earlier models prior to this more efficient "E21 2.0" version.  This is one of most rapidly appreciating cars out there now, and truly hard to find in this condition for this price.  Most of what's out there (even if it has been restored) has been in a serious wreck or has structural rust or both, and most people find out too late.  I took a while searching for a great restoration project which has no signs of ever being in a serious wreck, and is 100% solid structurally.  Ask any '02 guy...that's a hard task!  Now someone else will have the opportunity to enjoy this car as-is, or finish my restoration.  Some details:

-hard to find factory color verona red on black
-rare factory sunroof, 4-speed, factory a/c (not hooked up but most parts included)
-E21 turbine wheels including spare

What's been redone over the last couple months:
-newer BMW factory rebuilt M10 E21 2.0
-new clutch, flywheel, pressure plate, throwout and pilot bearings
-completely new ignition system
-converted to electric fuel pump
-weber 32/36 downdraft carb
-Stahl performance 4-to-1 header
-newer factory downpipe in great shape
-brand new factory muffler
-new master cylinder
-newly rebuilt front calipers
-hard brake lines replaced as needed, all soft lines replaced with braided stainless lines
-new rotors, pads, wheel cylinders
-new wheel bearings

Mechanically the car is excellent.  The interior is in good shape. The door cards and rear seat are excellent. The front seats are very good, carpet is new. Dash has typical cracks and headliner could use a little love.  The center console in the car now is the non-a/c console which I think looks better, but is not "finished".  I planned on enclosing the front, mounting new radio, etc.  The body has various small dings and creases, and has had an older, lower quality respray.  It doesn't bother me for a daily driver, but is the main thing keeping this car from being worth $15k or more.

And now everyone's favorite subject: the RUST:

The chassis is completely straight and from inspection is obvious was never in a serious accident of any kind, which is harder and harder to find. Also, all structural areas are very solid. Body has small patches of surface rust; lower lip on front bumper, driver's side corner marker and under hood on fenders, front outer rocker panels, rear driver's fender, rear trunk. Most spots the size of a penny or smaller.  Passenger floor pan has been repaired already (typically first thing to go on '76 models), driver's side pretty decent.  Spare tire well has small hole in bottom you could put a pencil through but mostly solid.  Engine bay is extremely clean for an original car; only some surface rust under battery tray and brake fluid reservoir, which is to be expected. The battery tray has been replaced with a new one. Front shock towers 100% solid and in great shape. Trunk in very good shape with newer fuel tank and original shock towers in excellent condition.  The original front bumper will be included in sale.

Overall the car is a great candidate for a "classic daily", and easily worth restoring if you care to invest in body work and a little interior.  The car starts up right away and drives very well; you will be impressed.  Wish I could take it with me.  No matter how many pictures I post, serious people will probably want more, so please contact me for specific photo requests.  Car is for sale locally and I reserve right to end at any time.  Local inspections/test drives are welcome to interested parties.  Willing to ship anywhere in the U.S. at buyer's expense or other mutual agreement.

There's no substitution for BMW's E30 Mmmmm3

Mon, 17 Jun 2013

If you told someone that you had a friend with a four-cylinder BMW who "would let me wash the car," and in exchange for the privilege then let you drive that clean BMW once around the block, your first question would probably be "What kind of BMW is this?" There's a chance you wouldn't be surprised once you found out the coupe in question was the E30 M3, a car our own Zach Bowman dubbed the "Mmmmm3."
Petrolicious talks to Gabor Mester about the car he fell in love with, a black version of the original "Munich mauler" that was owned by the parents of a high-school friend - oh, and Mester was also in high school when this washing and driving took place. When the original owners were ready to sell, Mestor was ready to buy, and he hasn't had a single regret about it since.
You can enjoy his story in his words in the video below.

BMW broadens engine bolt recall to nearly half-million cars worldwide

Fri, 11 Apr 2014

Almost one month ago, we reported on a BMW investigation into a potentially defective bolt that lived in the company's VANOS variable valve timing system. At that point, the potential recall was seemingly limited to Chinese-market cars; the company was filing a recall application with Chinese officials.
Today, Bloomberg is reporting that the engine bolt issue has expanded into a recall for several world markets, involving some 489,000 vehicles. BMW was able to verify that report to Autoblog, while also providing a great deal more detail about the issue and vehicles affected.
The recall affects vehicles powered by N55 inline six-cylinder gasoline engines equipped with VANOS and Valvetronic technologies. 1 Series, 3 Series, 5 Series and 5 Series Gran Turismo, X3, X5, X6 and Z4 models from the 2010 to 2012 model years are included, as is the 2012 6 Series.
