You are bidding on a 1976 BMW 2002, certainly a collectible car and one of the faster appreciating vintage BMWs to date. Recently purchased from the family of the second owner, who had it in his possession for close to 20 years. Original owner was from Colorado. Extremely solid example, no Midwestern rust, clean floors, trunk, shock towers and spare tire well. I have along with the car all original owners manuals, as well as the original owners maintenance log indicating all mileage and repairs during his ownership up to 1987 with 71000 miles at that time. I also have a stack of misc. receipts and repairs form the second owner. Description as follows:

Exterior:
* Original Fjord Blue car, recent repaint to 'BMW Individual' Atlantis Blue.
* Zender turbo style front fascia and fiberglass Euro style rear bumper.
* Turbo style trunk spoiler
* Flush fit Euro style front side markers
* Factory sunroof car
* New Enkei J speed 15 x 7 wheels mounted on Dunlop Direzza DZ 101 tires

Interior:
* Very clean interior, factory BMW Recaro bucker seats
* Hard to find Vintage Nardi Torino wood wheel with matching shift knob
* New salt and pepper style carpet, from Esty carpets, great fit and finish
* Original headliner, still presentable but shows some discoloration. Typical crack in dash.

Drivetrain:
* Prior owner indicated less than 5000 miles on rebuild, I pulled the valve cover and it is extremely clean.
* New Weber carb with electric choke
* Header with new rear center exit exhaust
* Battery relocate to trunk with rear strut brace
* New front brake calipers, rotors and pads
* 4 speed manual trans

To summarize, great looking and a real head turner. Good ownership history. Solid car, still retains the original jack assembly and tool bag. Nicely detailed trunk area and engine compartment. Great investment and a fun, easy to drive car. Please take the time to review all the pics and dont hesitate to call with further questions; 517-425-0129. I also have contact with a reasonable shipper and would be glad to assist. Vehicle offered by Rare Rides, a licensed MI dealer.

BMW joins the early holiday advertising fray with three new ads

Thu, 06 Nov 2014

October 31 is no longer known as Halloween, or All Saints' Eve or even as that day when all children simultaneously develop huge cavities. It's now known as the day before Christmas/holiday advertising begins. Seriously, as of November 1, it seems like companies across the country and from every industry have declared open season on holiday ad campaigns. It's all premature enough that we're already feeling our inner Grinch showing, but at least some of the ads are better done than others.
Among them are new spots from BMW, which has arrived with this mini-campaign of three 30-second, Christmas-themed spots. There's a cameo from Santa Claus, who's at the helm of a sleek M6 Gran Coupe in one spot, while a 3 Series Gran Coupe slices through a slalom of Christmas trees in another. The final spot, called "Road Home", doesn't focus so much on the brand's "Ultimate Driving Machines," as it does the trip home for the holidays.
We've embedded all three videos below, so take a look and then let us know what you think of this seemingly perpetual holiday marketing calendar creep - and the BMW ads in particular - in Comments.

BMW M1 really was the Ultimate Driving Machine

Thu, 29 May 2014

Life giving you lemons? Make lemonade. That's the spirit in Munich that lead to BMW producing the only mid-engined sports car in its 98-year history. The project resulted from a collaboration with Lamborghini (now owned, incidentally, by arch-rival Audi) to meet Group 4 homologation requirements. Lamborghini withdrew, the FIA changed its rules, but BMW built it anyway.
Arguably one of Giorgetto Giugiaro's finest designs, the M1 packed a 3.5-liter inline-six, driving 273 horsepower to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual. The Procar racing version turbocharged that output up to 850 hp and attracted the top drivers in a one-make F1 support race series.
Over the course of three years, the Bavarian automaker only built 456 examples of the M1, and for BMW enthusiasts, there's no vehicle more coveted. But don't take our word for it - let Petrolicious tell one noteworthy owner's tale in the video below.

Preserving automotive history costs big bucks

$1.8 million is spent each year to maintain GM's fleet of 600 production and concept cars.
When at least two of the Detroit Three were on the verge of death a few years back, one of the tough questions that was asked of Ford, General Motors and Chrysler execs - outside of why execs were still taking private planes to meetings - was why each company maintained huge archives of old production and concept vehicles. GM, for example, had an 1,100-vehicle collection when talk of a federal bailout began.
