Text added Sunday Sept. 7, 2:00PM:

My buddy, who knows this car much better than I do, suggested I add this:

1. Brand new fuel tank
2. Weber 32/36 two barrel Carb conversion. Waay better than the stock Solex.
3. Exhaust manifold is NOT the Thermal Reactor! It's the typical air pump manifold, with ports sealed and air pump removed.
4. Smog removal completed. Air pump, belts, manifold ports and other correct ports sealed.
5. Stereo removed, but ready for new one. 4 speakers (2 in door panels, two below rear seats), antenna, wiring in place.

I also added 2 pics, the weber carb and the exhaust manifold.

I saw this car and fell in love with it...then I came to my senses. Time to pass it on to someone who has the time and desire to fix it up (a little or a lot) and drive it. I bought it from the original owner who is, literally, a little old lady in Berkeley. Her grandson did the selling for her and I think he was not completely forthcoming with all that was wrong with the car. The following is an excerpt from his CR listing:

1975 BMW 2002 in Good running condition. Currently a daily driver.

*The vehicle has a NEW water pump, thermostat & 320i Radiator for superior engine cooling.

If you look online you'll see the 320i radiator is a common upgrade.

*Recent rear brakes, full tune-up = cap/rotor/points/condenser/wires/plugs/fuel-air filter & oil change.

Pretty much everything is original. All the glass, seats, engine/trans, starter, etc. Is all original and in good working order.

The vehicle drives very good & has No major mechanical issues. However cosmetically she has numerous flaws. The interior is intact except for the center console. And the original seats/carpet is dirty.

The body has scrapes & one dent on the fender plus one of the marker lights is busted & another one is cracked.

The paint still shines (garage kept) but like I said, a dent, scrapes & poor interior.

All the lights work, all the gauges work except for speedometer, odometer works though. Heat works & she's actually solid enough to drive down to Los Angeles & back right now.

138k original miles. 4 speed manual transmission.

Pre-smog car with a solid rust free body. Owned by my 74 year old Grandmother in Berkeley since new. She just got a new Automatic 3 series Beemer. LOL!

My best guess is that the car was overheating so he did the 320i radiator upgrade only he forgot the little hose that comes out of the front of the water pump. It had a hole in it. Not knowing where the leak was he put stop-leak in it and sold the car. Somewhere along the line it overheated enough to mess up the head gasket.

Again, that last paragraph is just my guess. The little hose has been replaced and it runs really very well when its cold. When it warms up it loses some power and starts running funny. There is also intermittent steam from the tail pipe. A mechanic said “head gasket” but I’m not 100% sure.

Anyway, most of the rest of what the grandson said in the listing seems to true, except for the shiny paint. It has some oxidation as you can see in the pics. Also you can’t go to LA in it till you fix the motor.

Rust: other than in some scratches and such there does not seem to be any rust. From above the shock towers look good. I took a lot of pics under the car that I would be glad to send to you. I believe him when he says the car was garage kept. It looks too good to have been outside for over 30 years.

Most everything works except the speedo, but the odometer does work. The parking brake handle needs to re-attached to the floor. The center console is mostly gone (someone took the radio at some point). The lock cylinder is missing from the drivers door. This is not, of course, and exhaustive list. Please let me know if you’d like to see more photos. After you look through them I’d be glad to answer any questions as best I can.

She’s a project but she really is an awesome car and very fun to drive. The transmission and clutch seem very solid, she shifts very smoothly in all gears. The brakes work great.

I would be glad to help your shipper if needed.

Thanks for looking.

BMW readying impressive track-focused M Power App

Thu, 06 Jun 2013

There are a lot of questionable automotive apps that people put on their smartphones these days, but BMW has created what could be one of the most useful and integrated car apps ever. The new M Power App, which will be available this summer only for Apple iPhones, allows BMW owners a whole new way to record their performance on the street or on a track. During the launch of the recent BMW M6 Gran Coupe, BimmerPost was able to get a full demonstration of how this new app works.
Far more involved than the current M Power Meter, the M Power App records data from in-car sensors and acts as a telemetry tool to allow drivers to see how they did on a particular track. Aside from an overlay on a track map showing acceleration and braking applications as well as head-to-head comparisons, the app also shows a line graph of everything from brake and throttle inputs to g-force, fuel mileage and engine speed. A small visual on the screen also shows steering angle, and lap times and speeds can all be stored as well. The data can even be shared with others, whether for bragging rights or instruction purposes.
This app works on any newer BMW equipped with the BMW Apps option, but the phone must be tethered to the car and the data understandably cannot be viewed while driving. Scroll down for the video demonstration recorded recently at Austin's Circuit of the Americas.

Wedding couple celebrates nuptials in the parking lot with donuts

Sat, 21 Dec 2013

Weddings are often joyous, fun-filled occasions full of revelry and some serious celebrating. And while we appreciate the fact that a couple is being joined together, we have a feeling a video like this could have very easily ruined said couple's big day.
It stars a bride, a groom and a BMW M3. But rather than the couple being in the car and laying down some rubber, the E46 M3 is doing donuts around the couple. We shouldn't have to explain why this is a bad idea - even if the driver is competent, this could have gone wrong pretty easily. Still, it didn't, and the end result is pretty cool.
Take a look below and let us know what you think in Comments.

Upcoming new BMW X6 leaks out ahead of full reveal

Thu, 05 Jun 2014

The X5 may have been the first BMW crossover on the market when it arrived in 2000, opening the door to more high-riding Bavarians to follow, but it's been replaced twice over now. The X3 is on its second generation, and with the X1 having been introduced in 2009 and the X4 soon to hit showrooms, that makes the X6 - introduced in 2008 - the oldest crossover in the BMW lineup. But it won't be for much longer.
Soon BMW will reveal the all-new X6, based on the latest X5 but with that tell-tale slanted roofline. But before it gets the chance, a handful of images have leaked their way all over the Internet to give us an advance look at what to expect.
The overall shape of the new X6 comes across as familiar, if a bit less of an awkward take on the vehicle that (for better or worse) launched the crossover coupe segment. Up front the twin kidney grilles and headlights are larger, in keeping with the latest BMW design language, and the bumper less horizontal and more dynamic. Towards the back there's a sharp crease above the wheel arch blending into the more rakishly shaped tail lights, while the metallic vent behind the front wheel arch lends the flank an even sportier appearance.
