This is a 1972 BMW 2002 in it's original "Nevada" color with a 4spd manual transmission and sunroof. The car is in GREAT shape with VERY little rust - in fact just one spot in spare wheel well. The car was originally purchased in California which explains the "dryness" of this 2002. I have literally a pile of receipts documenting its "life" in Southern California. (Also have the original California Blue Plate.)

I purchased the car from an older gentleman who spent more time hoarding cars than driving them. It needed a partial restoration to bring it to it's current state. Any and all original parts removed for replacement have been saved and will transfer with the car. The body is incredibly dry and required very little real work - the sills, front and rear shock towers, door bottoms, all glass frames, inner fenders, front and rear pans, all floor boards, frame rails, sub frame mounts, truck floor(except one spot in spare well), roof, and all quarter panels are rust FREE! As in ZERO, NONE, NUNCA, NICHT! I did remove the rear reflectors and welded the holes. You will find NO BONDO "filling" anything on this car! I wanted to give it a slight "old school rally look" with the CIBIE Oscar lamps and hood latches as well as "euro" flat front turn signals. (I have the original hood latch mechanism.) The wheels are brand new E30 steels wheel with new 195/60/14 rubber.(I have the original wheels and tires w/chrome BMW caps in great condition that goes with the car.) I added a MOMO Indy Steering Wheel to finish off the original interior. There is only one crack on an otherwise flawless dash! The door cards had been cut for speakers so I added new speakers as the old ones were ugly and shot. (I did not hook the stereo back up but it's all there and could be done in 15 miutes.) It really is a pretty car and turns heads wherever it goes. I have owned 6 - 2002's and this is the driest and best looking one I have had. Nevada has always been one of my favorite BMW colors of all time - I like Inka and Golf as well. :)

Now, for the "needs. The paint is the ONLY "not-so-wonderful" part of this car. It has some "rough" spots in it that could be fixed if so inclined. I color sanded and buffed it so it shines like crazy. I would call this a "5 foot paint job". You could "spot paint" to fix the spots without re-spraying the whole car.  The heater fan works when it feels like it. The headliner is hole and rip-free but it is dirty - I'm still in process of cleaning it. The front seats do have some splits in bottom cushions but I have some sheepskin covers that go with the car that could use. (I wanted to re-do the seats in a complimentary plaid color which would look incredible!)

If you want a classy-as-hell round taillight 2002 for a cars and coffee machine, classic tourer, or just head turner then this is good to go right now as she sits! If you want an over-the-top restoration this would be a great start.

2015 BMW M4 gets initiated into the club

Fri, 22 Aug 2014

It's easy for enthusiasts and traditionalists to give BMW a hard time these days, what with its plans to add more front-wheel drive models and seeming move away from more emotionally connected cars. However, the push for perfection that underscored its old Ultimate Driving Machine motto is still in there, especially in its M models. In fact, the first M4 recently made it to US shores, and the company thought the only appropriate way to celebrate was to introduce its new coupe to some of its high-performance forefathers.
The M4's initiation into the M car brotherhood involved bringing together no fewer than 52 classic and newer models - including four racecars and many privately owned vehicles - to an empty parking lot and letting the coupe drift and slalom around them to say hello. According to BMW, there was a combined 11,566 horsepower on hand. It takes a pretty trusting owner to stand back and watch as a brand-new vehicle slides its tail out with the rear wheels smoking within feet of their pride and joy. Stay tuned until the end where the owners and their cars get a shout out in the credits. Scroll down to read BMW's press release about it.

BMW: i8 sold out, i3 records 10k orders

Mon, 25 Nov 2013

Just in case anyone was wondering how plug-in BMW cars would be received, the answer is apparently "quite well." After speaking with BMW's global sales chief last week at the LA Auto Show, Reuters has learned that the plug-in hybrid i8 sports coupe is already sold out for its first year on the market.
There is no word as to how many i8s BMW sold, but the first example was delivered to a customer last week in Germany. As for the all-electric/range-extended i3 hatchback, the automaker has received more than 10,000 orders for this model before it even goes on sale. Likewise, we don't know how many BMW plans to sell, but we do know they'll be showing up in the US before next summer.
We've already spent some time behind the wheel of both plug-in BMWs, and you can check out our first drive of the production i3 and our first drive of an i8 prototype.

Alex Zanardi back in the driver's seat with BMW

Tue, 21 Jan 2014

If there's ever been an inspirational story in the pantheon of motor racing history, surely it's that of Alessandro Zanardi. The Italian driver worked his way up the motor racing ladder, making it into Formula One and winning two CART championships for Chip Ganassi Racing back before the series re-merged into IndyCars. Tragedy struck in 2001 when he lost both his legs in a crash at the Lausitzring in Germany, but rather than accept his fate, Alex pushed on. Fitted with prosthetic limbs, he learned to drive a racing car with hand controls and got back in the driver's seat.
Zanardi drove for BMW in the European Touring Car Championship and then in the World Touring Car Championship that replaced it, landing on the podium several times despite his physical disadvantage. He left racing in 2009 to train for the Paralympics, winning two gold medals in London, but Alex apparently couldn't shake the racing bug. BMW modified one of its M3 DTM racers with hand controls for him to test later that year. And now he's returning to motor racing full time.
BMW has just announced that Zanardi will be driving a Z4 GT3 in the Blancpain Sprint Series, the successor to the FIA GT Series and short-distance counterpart to the Blancpain Endurance Series. The car has been modified with the hand controls the Bavarian automaker's racing department fitted to the aforementioned M3 DTM and will be fielded by the ROAL Motorsport team with which Alex challenged for the European Touring Car Championship last decade.
