Mercer Island, Washington, United States

1969 BMW 2002ti vintage race car. Built and raced by German tuner Holger Tapp - aka Turbo Tapp and raced in Northern Europe and the USA in the 1970's and 1980's. Stickers on the car include Mantorp, Sweden; NHRA World Finals in Ontario, CA - 1978 - 1981; and Sko-Uno festival Mantorp Sweden.

Motor turns over by hand however I have not tried to start it up and do not know precise displacement. Includes KKK 3LD / Porsche turbo and custom manifold blowing through twin Weber 48 DCOE. Roll bar; 'drag-water' and pump for burnout; interior adjustable boost & brake bias; fiberglass hood and truck. Has been updated with later rectangular taillights.

I think the photos serve to illustrate the condition - rust in the rocker panels; filler in the drivers door and rear 1/4 panel; and assorted dings, scratches, rust, windshield has bubbling. This is a race-car in need of complete restoration to bring back to it's former glory. Sold on a bill of sale only and unfortunately no logbook. Happy to work with your shipper but like to have moved September 19th.

Note - reserve price is lower than prior high-bid. If you have any questions, please let me know. Thanks and happy bidding!

BMW releases complete pricing info on M3 and M4

Mon, 31 Mar 2014

When BMW unveiled the M3 and M4 at the Detroit Auto Show back in January, we told you that the new sportsters were starting at $62,000 and $64,200, respectively. That leaked info, though, only told a small part of the story for the new M cars. Now, we have the complete pricing sheet on the new coupe and sedan, direct from BMW.
The pricing intel that we had at the time was correct - prices start at $62,000 for four doors and $64,200 for two. Those prices don't include the $925 destination charge. Potential customers should also plan on spending an extra $550, as seven of the eight paint options are of the metallic variety. BMW's trademark Alpine White is the only no-cost paint option.
As for the cabin, customers will, interestingly, have the choice of a cloth/leather combination as standard. That's in addition to the standard suite of leather options. There are also extended leather and full leather options, for $950 and $3,500, respectively. There are three option packages available, covering all the extra goodies for the M3 and M4.

Next BMW X1 moving to smaller, lighter FWD-biased platform

Thu, 20 Feb 2014

BMW's decision to make the upcoming 2-Series Active Tourer front-wheel drive has been polarizing to say the least, but like it or not, that is the direction the company will go in the near future - one rumor put the number as high as 23 front-wheel-drive models for Mini and BMW combined. The next-generation X1 won't send all its power to the front wheels, though, when it launches in early 2016. While it will use the same platform as the Active Tourer, rumors suggest all models will use all-wheel drive - at least at launch.
A "high-ranking," unnamed BMW manager confirmed to AutoWeek that the new model will switch to transversely-mounted three- and four-cylinder engines and the same six-speed manual and eight-speed automatic transmissions as the Active Tourer. The new, smaller platform will allow for more efficient packaging, and despite the smaller size, interior space will remain comparable. All the changes should make it significantly lighter too.
Don't start wailing just yet because BMW surely won't be entirely abandoning sporty models. AutoWeek claims that the Bavarians are working on a higher-output version of the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with power closer to 300 horsepower, about a 72-hp boost. It's also rumored to offer a sporty version of the X1 that may be called the X2.

Audi to spend $17 billion to fight BMW

Sat, 29 Dec 2012

It's no secret that VW Group, parent company to not only Volkswagen but also Audi, Bugatti, Bentley, Lamborghini, Porsche and Ducati brands sold in the US, is determined to become the world's largest automaker. Even more impressive is that VW is prepared to spend billions to make it happen.
With that comes word that VW Group will be spending $17 billion on its Audi brand over the next three years to push itself above rival BMW. The money will be invested in both vehicle development (including lightweight auto design and alternative powertrains) and facilities (including expansion in Hungary, China and new operations in Mexico). The luxury brand is focused on global manufacturing infrastructure.
Already Europe's best-selling luxury brand, Audi's objective is to overtake BMW by the end of the decade by selling more than two million cars per year (BMW is shooting for 1.54 million sales in 2013). If those objectives are met, VW Group should be on track to be the industry's volume leader by 2018.
