Clean CA  1991 Audi 100 with no rust. Car needs some work but runs very well.

It leaks Power Steering fluid from somewhere underneath the fill reservoir. Can't find it. It was leaking from the power steering pump as well but my mechanic replaced with a used one in CA around March. The steering works fine but seems stiff especially when pulling into or out of parking spaces when a lot of wheel travel is necessary. So something is up with that. Whether it is steering rack, air in hydraulic system I am not sure.

This was my sons car and I don't have time to work on it anymore and got him another car. Recently the ignition switch broke. I replaced the ignition key cylinder as well as the electric ignition switch behind that as well. At the same time I replaced the windshield wiper and hazard switch/arms. All these were new parts. New windshield wipers.

Alarm works. Newer battery.

A/C works but needs a recharge. Just does not get cool enough. It is R12 and I have 2 cans of R12 included to recharge it with but never have. Did not really need in CA but you prob want it cooler in NJ. Electronic climate control works well.

Drivers side door does not unlock with key. Has to be opened from passenger side door and then all electric locks open. I never opened the door panel but probably something broke or arm popped out so the key does not open the electric locks on driver side.
Very small chip in windshield which has been epoxied. Size of about this     O

Tires are in pretty good shape. Brakes work well but these are tied into the hydraulic fluid system and the power steering system. (weird Audi thing) So you need to keep an eye on that fluid until the steering leak can be found.

Interior is in very nice shape with exception of sun roof which the lining came off.

I replaced the instrument gauge console as the water temp was not working on the one that came with the car. Everything works on that except the clock is fuzzy, the odometer does not work and the emergency brake light stays on. I never pulled back out to figure it out. It was used purchased on ebay. I was mostly concerned that all the engine gauges worked which they do. The car had around 120K when I replaced the instrument cluster which reads 138K. I would guess close to 130,000 miles is accurate.

There is no stereo or rear speakers. There are front speakers.

The car was having an issue with stumbling/stalling. I replaced the spark plug wires and spark plugs about 6 weeks ago and the issue is gone.

The seat heat works on both seats. (maybe too well)

Headlight mount adjusting screws broke (common prob on these cars) I have them wired into position. New adjusting screws and mounts available on E-bay.

Cruise control does not work. No idea why, never looked.

Drove this car in December 4 hours into mountains from San Fran  and not a prob. That's about all I can think of! Selling AS IS but can be driven or towed away.

Great for Audi Collector and a very comfortable ride and a powerful motor.

Audi moves to patent electric Quattro and active-shutter wheels

Thu, 13 Feb 2014

Audi might have a few tricks up its sleeve for the coming years, with the Brits at Autocar uncovering a pair of patent filings made by the German luxury brand. The first is something we've seen before - wheel flaps - while the second is an evolution of one of Audi's trademark technologies.
We last saw wheel flaps on the Ford Atlas Concept in 2013, but the futuristic fuel-saving tech has so far failed to arrive on a production car. Audi may be seeking to change that, patenting the flaps that open and close automagically based on airflow. They can also open if the brakes get too hot.
The second patent is an evolution of Audi's Quattro all-wheel drive. The new AWD system uses an electrically driven rear axle and wheel sensors to figure out when and at which corner the car might lose traction, and is targeted largely at hybrid offerings, which is a field Audi has only recently dipped its toe into.

Startup will make your Audi A4 self-driving for $10k [w/video]

We are on the cusp of the next generation of semi-autonomous driving technology becoming affordable. Adaptive cruise control is already trickling down to the mass market, and the more sophisticated systems found on vehicles like the Mercedes-Benz S-Class are clearly coming, as well. If you're a little adventurous, live in California and drive an Audi, you might be able to upgrade to the next stage of driverless tech even sooner. A San Francisco start-up called Cruise Automation is launching an aftermarket autopilot system called the RP1 for $10,000, with deliveries starting in 2015.
The RP1 is designed for 2012 and newer Audi A4 and S4 models. Although, Cruise CEO Kyle Vogt told Autoblog in an email: "There's no reason we can't expand to other cars, and we will." The system includes a sensor pod on the roof containing cameras, radar and other sensors to scan the road ahead. It then sends data to a small computer mounted on the side of the trunk. The desired inputs are then made by actuators for the steering, brakes and throttle to control the car. A button in the cabin activates the autopilot and controls the desired speed. Not completely unlike Audi's own, developmental, semiautonomous system.
At this point, the RP1 is somewhere between an adaptive cruise control system and an autonomous vehicle. It can control all of the cars inputs and even bring it down to a complete stop and then accelerate again. However, it only works on select highways in California. "We use geofencing to limit the areas of operation to segments of highway in which we've collected enough data to ensure our customers' safety," said Vogt to Autoblog.

IIHS bestows 2015 Audi A3 with Top Safety Pick+ [w/video]

Wed, 26 Mar 2014

There's some good news for Audi today, as the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has named the all-new A3 one of its Top Safety Pick+, the institute's highest award for safety.
While there are no shortage of cars that can handle the standard IIHS trial, the tough small overlap test needed to earn TSP+ has flummoxed more than a few vehicles from prestigious, safety minded manufacturers. In the A3's case, though, it handled the small-overlap tests well.
According to the IIHS, there wasn't much intrusion into the cabin from the impact, which simulates a 40-mile-per-hour impact on 25 percent of a car's front end. The crash test dummy was held in place, with just a low risk of injuries. You can view the crash test video below, as well as read a brief press release from the IIHS.
