1984 Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce on 2040-cars

I have had the privilege of owning this Italian work of art since October 2003.  Now it's time for me to offer the beautiful car to a new owner, who hopefully will appreciate her as much as I have.  It's not a "show" car, but a very sound and attractive vehicle that still turns heads when you drive by.  It needs to be driven and unfortunately I no longer have the time to devote to her.

I am by no means a mechanic and this is a 30 year old car.  It is very sound and drives well but like any car that's been on the road for 3 decades, it is not perfect.  The synchro in 2nd gear is a little touchy....a very common issue with this model.  The blower for the defroster/heater does not work.  Until recently, both power windows worked fine, but now the driver's side window has stopped working (the window is up).  Additionally, the driver's side door won't lock -- not sure if that's related to the power window problem.  The levers for the vent windows are not attached but I do have them in the glove compartment. (Same as when I purchased the car!)

On the "good" side:  the car has Michelin tires with almost no wear.  The radiator core has been replaced within the last month.  The canvas top is in excellent condition with a clear rear window.  I replaced the aftermarket radio that was in the car with a Pioneer receiver/CD player with a detachable face plate.  I am including a copy of Pat Braden's  Alfa Romeo Owner's Bible, a 1984 Owner's Operational Manual (50 state version) and an Alfa flag that I briefly flew on my garage.

SUMMER IS NOT OVER YET!  I'm offering a rare opportunity to own the Italian sports car you always wanted, at a very reasonable price.  The car is also for sale locally, so I reserve the right to end the auction early.  Local pick up only, but I will work with a buyer that wants to ship the car at the buyer's cost.

Marchionne uses racial epithet to describe what must power future Alfa Romeo models

Wed, 16 Jan 2013

Sergio Marchionne and his Fiat empire have a lot riding on the US return of the Alfa Romeo brand. The endeavor has been in progress for what feels like a lifetime - certainly for as long as Fiat has had the Chrysler brand under its Italian wing.
It's not surprising that Fiat CEO Marchionne needs a perfect first Alfa to mark a return to America. And here's where things get dicey. Nobody would argue with Marchionne's insistence that Alfa Romeo's be powered by Italian engines - as Marchionne himself is quoted to have said at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show, "There are some things that are well done in Italy."
If not what he said, then, it's how he said it that has eyebrows raised. "I cannot come up with a schlock product, I just won't. I won't put an American engine into that car. With all due respect to my American friends, it needs to be a wop engine." Wait, what's that?

Chrysler appoints new heads of Alfa Romeo and Ram

Mon, 18 Aug 2014

Chrysler has announced to two key appointments to its senior leadership, both of them taking immediate effect. First up is Reid Bigland, who has been named head of the Alfa Romeo brand for North America. Bigland has served until now as head of the Ram Truck brand, a portfolio he now hands over to Robert Hegbloom, who had served until now as its director.
As a result of the appointments, both Bigland and Hegbloom will take up seats on Chrysler's NAFTA Leadership Team, and Bigland will also join the Fiat Chrysler Group Executive Council - the highest decision-making body in the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles empire.
As per Sergio Marchionne's leadership style, Bigland will continue to serve in two major capacities, maintaining his role as president and CEO of Chrysler Canada. Other senior executives who hold multiple key portfolios include Harald Wester (who serves as the group's Chief Technology Officer and also overseas Alfa Romeo, Maserati and Abarth), Olivier Francois (group Chief Marketing Officer and head of the Fiat brand) and Michael Manley (head of the Asia-Pacific region and the Jeep brand).

Just 45% of Fiat dealers are profitable, and they're angry about it

On average, Fiat dealers have only been selling about 17 cars a month.
We've been wondering for some time how Fiat dealers in North America have been getting along with just one model range in their showrooms up until recently. Franchisees spent millions building, stocking and manning sleek new 'studio' showrooms, only to have but a single model to sell, the cherubic 500. And even with its many derivatives, the Cinquecento is still an inexpensive model with its attendant lower margins. Perhaps it should come as no surprise then, that just 45 percent of US Fiat dealers are said to be profitable.
