Up for sale is my 1973 Alfa Romeo Giulia 1300 I am calling this my gateway Alfa. This is a great car for someone who interested in Alfas but hasn’t owned one or for someone who is looking to take it to the next level. I have owned this car for a little over a year and during my ownership it has been my daily driver. My girls are getting older and I need to start helping mom taxi children to and from practices, lessons, and recitals. Therefore, I will be driving more at night and with children in tow so I need to upgrade to a more ‘modern’ car. I bought this car out of Franklin, TN, and it now lives in Pensacola, FL. I bought the car and drove it from Tennessee to Florida. I would not hesitate to drive this car anywhere; all be it slow. Engine/Trans The car runs and drives great. It does have the normal 2nd gear syncro crunch when downshifting. Because, it is my daily driver all gauges, lights, and wipers work. The car stops well and I recently had the brakes looked over. I have changed the head gasket and had the timing redone. I have changed all fluids. But more importantly, I have driven it and will continue to drive it. Interior The interior is in decent shape. The back seats are solid with no tears or holes. It even has a middle arm rest. I have installed static two point seat belts which allows me to strap in car seats. Back windows and door locks function properly. The front passenger has a tear in the middle of the seat cushion but other than that the seat is great. The driver seat has a few small tears and the stitching is pulling in some places. Both front seats have new 3 point inertia reel seat belts. Exterior It does have some rust but nothing catastrophic that would keep you from being able to drive it. And just enough where you can feel comfortable about driving it. Not a Garage Queen. Marchionne uses racial epithet to describe what must power future Alfa Romeo models
Wed, 16 Jan 2013Sergio Marchionne and his Fiat empire have a lot riding on the US return of the Alfa Romeo brand. The endeavor has been in progress for what feels like a lifetime - certainly for as long as Fiat has had the Chrysler brand under its Italian wing.
It's not surprising that Fiat CEO Marchionne needs a perfect first Alfa to mark a return to America. And here's where things get dicey. Nobody would argue with Marchionne's insistence that Alfa Romeo's be powered by Italian engines - as Marchionne himself is quoted to have said at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show, "There are some things that are well done in Italy."
If not what he said, then, it's how he said it that has eyebrows raised. "I cannot come up with a schlock product, I just won't. I won't put an American engine into that car. With all due respect to my American friends, it needs to be a wop engine." Wait, what's that?
Chrysler earns $1.7B in 2012, revises product plans for US
Wed, 30 Jan 2013Hot on the heels of Ford's earnings announcement for the year that was, Chrysler today reported a 2012 net income of $1.7 billion, up substantially from the comparatively minuscule $183 million profit earned in 2011 when it repaid its US government loans.
Chrysler's good year ended with an excellent fourth quarter that saw net income rise 68 percent from $225 million in 2011 to $378 million. Where are all those extra earnings coming from? Market share, which Chrysler saw increase to 11.4% last year on sales of 1.65 million vehicles. In fact, the Auburn Hills, MI-based automaker out-paced the industry's market growth of 13 percent last year with sales up 21 percent for the year.
The company also revealed an updated product plan for its Chrysler Group and Fiat brands that looks all the way out to 2016. It's an updated version of the plan introduced in 2009 shortly after Fiat took control of the American automaker, and includes such new additions as an Alfa Romeo model, likely the 4C, to be introduced in the US this year, as well five more Alfa models by 2016. Likewise, Fiat will be growing by an additional seven models in the coming few years.
Next-gen Mazda MX-5 Miata mule spied 'Ring testing
Wed, 23 Oct 2013Fans of simple, lightweight motoring, rejoice - we now have images of the next-generation Mazda MX-5 Miata undergoing testing at der Nürburgring Nordschleife. Now, to be fair, this isn't some lightly camouflaged example that will give us a great peak of what the next Miata, which will also become the next Alfa Romeo Spider, will look like. This is a mule, with the new bits hidden under a current Miata's body. That doesn't mean there aren't a few scraps of valuable information here, though.
According to our flock of camera-toting spies at the Nürburgring, the next Miata is likely to grow a bit, as new models are wont to do. In particular, it will be longer and wider, and the wheelbase is likely going to be stretched, based on the shape of the wheel wells and doors. Both of those factors will add more space in the cabin.
Those are the big indications provided by these photos, but while the MX-5 might be growing, it's a safe bet based on these images that it, and the (likely pricier) Alfa, will retain the classic, long-hood, short-deck styling that so typifies rear-drive roadsters.
