1998 Acura Rl Base Sedan 4-door 3.5l on 2040-cars
Miami, Florida, United States
Condition: Good. Car runs well. AC cold. See outstanding issues section below. Sold as is. Great for a first car!
Features: All standard features with RL History: I am the 4th owner since 9/2011. I bought it as a first car for my daughter in college from a franchise dealer. When I bought the car it had an accident on the Carfax...no frame damage. Some peeling paint on bumpers from prior repair. Front seat leather seats have some repairs. Earlier this year my daughter was involved in an accident that impacted mostly the driver's door. Again no frame damage. The repairs were done by a reputable shop recommended by Jap Tech (a Honda/Acura only reputable shop). All the work is under warranty. Since I have owned the vehicle it has been serviced by Jap Tech in Hollywood Fla. I have spent over $4800 bringing the vehicle mechanically current. Repairs have included: Interstate battery, tires, alternator, starter, AC evaporator, the front windshield seal and glass, new hood pistons, EGR valve cover gasket, cam plugs, rocker arm seals, rack and pinion boots. Outstanding issues: Last week the check engine light came on...according to my mechanic it requires a replacement part that has to do with the emissions system. Approx cost is $350. Since I have owned the car we have also been watching a slow power steering pump and rear main seal leak. Also the telescoping steering column and the rear glass defroster has not worked prior to me owning the vehicle. Why am I selling: We bought our graduating daughter a newer car for Christmas and so it's time to say good buy to "Gerdy"...we did a lot for the ol gal...it's time for someone else to carry the torch. Shipping & Payment: PAYPAL only Delivery: Please arrange to pick up in person. No returns. |

2013 Acura ILX Hybrid
Wed, 10 Jul 2013This Is Not The Acura You're Looking For
Mid-level luxury brands have always had to do a bit of leg work to distance themselves from their more common cousins. Thanks to generation after generation of pervasive badge engineering (much of it from the Big Three), buyers can't be blamed for looking at brands like Buick, Lincoln, Infiniti, Lexus and yes, Acura as tarted up versions of Chevrolet, Ford, Nissan, Toyota and Honda products. For much of its lifetime in the automotive landscape, however, Acura has excelled at putting distance between its offerings and that of its parent company thanks to cars with superior driving dynamics, quieter cabins and clean, attractive aesthetics.
Yes, outliers and dull spots can be found in the company's recent track record, but by and large, Acura products remain situated well above the Honda rabble. When the brand announced it was getting serious about the luxury small car game with the ILX, those of us with a set of the company's keys in our past couldn't help but envision an honest successor to the long-dead Integra. Turns out, that wasn't what Acura had in mind.
Lexus gets top brand marks from Consumer Reports; Ford, Jeep hit hard
Tue, 25 Feb 2014Consumer Reports has released its 2014 Car Brand Report Cards, with Lexus again reigning at the top and doing so with the same industry-topping score of 79 that it registered in last year's Report Cards. This year, the institute credited its lineup for being "usually quiet, comfortable, and fuel-efficient," noting it's the only brand on the list "to achieve an excellent average overall reliability score." The Car Brand Report Cars list is meant to rank the best all-around vehicles based on CR testing and reliability results tallied by subscribers it surveyed. Each brand included must have sufficient test and reliability data for at least three models, a standard which left out 11 marques including Fiat, Jaguar, Land Rover and Porsche.
This 2014 Brand Report Cars edition is the first of a new format in which sub-brands have been broken out from their parent brands, with Acura using this year to move up the leaderboard into second place with a score of 75 for its "reliable, well-finished and somewhat sporty models." The top three was rounded out by Audi, climbing from eighth to third by scoring a 74 for "well-crafted interiors, nice handling and good gas mileage." Audi scored highest in the road-test portion, its improved reliability aiding its rise. The top nine was completed by Subaru, Toyota, Mazda, Honda, Infiniti and Mercedes-Benz.
Ford and Jeep weighed in at the other end of the rankings, Jeep taking the lowest overall score in the road tests and hampered by "a mix of spotty reliability." Ford was sunk by reliability issues with its MyFord Touch infotainment system which consumers found troublesome enough to negate its cars earning "solid test scores" for being "very nice to drive." Perhaps the rumored switch from Microsoft to Blackberry's QNX for the next generation SYNC will help them out. Cadillac's score also took a hit for infotainment reasons after it was the leading US brand last year, the CUE system in the XTS dragging Cadillac to the bottom of all General Motors brands.
Honda is first Japanese carmaker to be a net-exporter from US
Wed, 29 Jan 2014Over the last decade or so, many foreign automakers have challenged the idea of what defines an "American car," but Honda took things a step further last year by exporting more cars out of the US than it imported in. Reuters is reporting that in 2013, a total of 108,705 Honda and Acura models were exported from the US with only 88,357 being shipped in. This gives Honda a net exporter status here, and makes it the first of such among the major Japanese automakers.
Honda's US imports have been dropping over the last five years while its exports have been steadily increasing. In 2008, the report indicates that Honda shipped 187,000 vehicles to the US and exported only 20,000, and even by 2012 Honda still favored imports with 136,000 imports and 74,000 exports. The article says that US-made Honda and Acura vehicles were exported to 50 countries with most ending up in Mexico, but the big news is that the Honda's US production set a record in 2013 with 1.3 million units built.
