We have been the second owners of this non-smoker car for 15 years. It is 100% original except for added driving lights and portable XM radio. It has been in dry New Mexico since new so there is absolutely no rust or corrosion. It has always been garaged and not used as a daily driver. Except for the radio antenna which no longer raises and lowers everything is fully functional. It has been meticulously maintained with painstaking adherence to the manufacturer's service schedule with synthetic lubricants in the engine and transaxle and a K&N air filter. The AC system has been overhauled and converted to modern refrigerant. I have complete service records, receipts, and shop manual. The Falken Ziex tires have a full service/replacement warranty with Discount Tire.
The 140hp engine averages 32mpg highway with regular. The 4-speed automatic has a sport mode and the car is equipped with power windows, locks, cruise control, and tilt power steering. It has an AM/FM Cassette plus the added XM radio. Driver's seat has lumbar and side bolster adjustments besides the standard fore/aft/recline modes. The integrated fog lights are augmented by aftermarket driving lights. The sunroof has a sliding sun shade plus a removable tinted wind deflector (see photos).
The exceptional condition of this car is rare for its age but, as with any unrestored 20 year old car, it has a few minor dings and scratches: Some scrapes on right corner of bumper; chipped plastic on right parking light; stone chip on left headlight; road rash on hood; abrasion on left front alloy wheel; and stain in cargo compartment carpet that defies removal (see photos).
This car is loads of fun to drive and we have enjoyed many happy miles with it but, as hard as it will be to part with her, it is time to allow someone else to know the pureness of her virtues. I have watched the value rise on this generation of Integras recently. They are now listed in the "exotic" category on the NADA website and, hopefully, they will reach collectible status at some point. Besides giving her next owner many more miles of driving pleasure this car just may turnout to be a good investment, also.

Acura Street Performance ILX had an unfortunate smelting accident
Thu, 07 Nov 2013There's a fun cliche for all-black cars based on an old Chevrolet Impala SS advertisement - "Lord Vader, your car is ready." It's been reproduced seemingly every time an automaker comes out with a menacing, black car. This Acura Street Performance ILX is for a different movie villain, though. Its advertisement should read, "Goldmember, your car is ready."
Yes, this is a matte gold car, and would probably be lusted after by that freaky deeky Dutch villain. And while it's easy to poke fun at the car's paint job, we're actually quite impressed with what Acura and MAD Industries have done with the car's mechanicals. The 2.4-liter, four-cylinder engine has been boosted to 250 horsepower at the front wheels, thanks to a CT Engineering supercharger and an ECU reflash. A CT Engineering intake adds to the grunt, as does a new, prototype Greddy exhaust.
The car rides on 19-inch Nitto NT05 Max tires and TSW Max wheels, while Tein Super Street coilovers and a Stoptech big brake kit make the compact Acura a bit more controllable. Outside the car, an Acura Accessories body kit has been fitted, while the cabin sports a CT Engineering short shift kit, and a few other items from the Acura catalog.
Acura built just 91 examples of the ILX last month, here's why
Thu, 18 Apr 2013The short life of the Acura ILX has been vexed by one glaringly odd standard equipment choice, mediocre reviews, getting outsold by its competition as it posted slower-than-projected sales and a pledge by Honda to upgrade its supposedly upgraded offering. Therefore, when Automotive News reports that just 91 of the Civic-based Acura sedans were manufactured last month - after a string of production months in double-digits - it would be easy to press the button for the alarm bells.
But that would be hasty, because it is actually the 2013 Honda Civic that is crimping the production pipeline of the ILX. The vastly higher sales numbers of the Honda meant that all three North American plants that produce it needed to crank up output to satisfy dealer inventory needs, including the Greenburg, Indiana plant that makes both the Civic and the ILX. As the classic guns-vs-butter Economy 101 lesson taught us - in which making more of one necessarily means making less of the other - well, the Civic is the gun.
Honda prepared for this eventuality by cranking out the Acuras while it got ready for Civic production. The ILX has held steady at about 500 units shy of company projections every month, and the current inventory represents about 90 days worth of sales. That makes Greenburg's ostensibly low numbers in line with the realities of the ILX, and the situation probably won't change much as Acura gets ready for the improved 2014 ILX.
Reliving the Acura NSX debut, 25 years later
Sat, 03 May 2014The Acura NSX might be one of the most important Japanese cars ever created. The Land of the Rising Sun had already established that it could make very competent performance vehicles when the NSX debuted in 1989, but Honda's two-seater was the first one that looked to the world like a true contender against Ferrari and Porsche, thanks to its cutting-edge technology. The Acura had an all-aluminum monocoque chassis, a beautifully low-slung body and a quick-revving V6 with an 8,000-rpm redline. This quintessential Japanese sports coupe celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, and Autoweek recognizes it in a fantastic piece chronicling the model's US launch.
The story begins in February 1989 at the Chicago Motor Show where the car debuted. The day before the show opened, the concept still didn't have a name. The Japanese development team referred to it as New Sports, and the American Acura executives decided to add eXperimental to the end. The moniker NSX just stuck afterwards.
The article paints a fantastic portrait of the car and the company at the time. Honda had something to prove with the NSX. To succeed, the coupe had to be the best, and when the American press finally got a hold of it, they drowned it in accolades. Of course, Acura has a new American-built NSX on the way, and it has colossal legacy to live up to. This piece is definitely worth reading to understand why.
